And #Manyverse ( #SSB client for #iOS and #Android ) is suddenly picking up incoming posts, at least on the iPad. I'll check the other tablet later.

#iOS / #iPadOS 14.2 is out. It has lots of new emoji, plus 8 new wallpapers.
(One wonders whether that description ever persuades anyone that they _must_ update as soon as possible, so they can have more wallpapers.)

One of the most annoying things for me is that after the #iPad upgraded to #iOS 14.1, there’s a constantly-on, unblockable notification to set up #Apple_Pay. Sorry, #Apple. You got your X hundred dollars. You are not getting any more.
Looking forward to retiring this tablet and closing my AppleID account.

It's finally happened. For over a decade, seeing a #Windows update (either OS or application) has triggered an "oh, no, what's it going to break?" response. Now, #Android and #iOS do the same thing.

So removing #Manyverse from my #iPad released enough storage to allow me to upgrade to #iOS 14.0.1. I've since reinstalled Manyverse, and I'm currently upgrading to iOS 14.1. My impressions of iOS 14: irritating as f*ck. Every few hours (almost every time I unlock the screen), it asks me to enter my AppleID password. You know, that long and complex machine-generated string that…

Another issue, which I've observed before. #Manyverse #iOS doesn't respond quickly to user input, so it often seems frozen. I tend to click 3-4 times before I remember to wait for it to respond.

Found out that one app on my #iPad, “Dash”, has gigs of data. I could update the tablet if I deleted the app, but I will not. I doubt that #iOS 14 has anything that I would call “better”.

Since #iOS 14, #Outlook notifications on the lock screen don't preview message contents. I get up tens or even hundreds of e-mail messages in a day. Notifications are useless if they don't allow me to quickly and easily decide whether it is worth unlocking the phone and reading now.

#Apple releases #iOS 14 / #iPadOS 14 ... $EMPLOYER sent out an alert: Don't update until we finish testing applications for compatibility.

#iOS 13.7:
This update lets you opt-in to the COVID-19 Exposure Notifications system without the need to download an app.
Uh, no thanks?

#Apple giving users better control over inter-app tracking on #iOS 14.x, #Facebook among companies that are worried. https://9to5mac.com/2020/08/11/apple-ios-14-privacy-tracking-facebook/ [9to5mac com]

The #iOS / #iPadOS version autoupdated to #Element. It started pushing notifications at me (something I dislike!) so I had to turn them completely off. Previously, I had been able to limit them to displaying a number on the program icon.

#TikTok https://nu.federati.net/url/271530 [www forbes com]
.
TikTok caught spying on #Apple #iOS users, banned in #India, under investigation in #USA and #Australia, now even #Anonymous seems to be warning against it.

@geniusmusing Yeah, it looks like #Android “LovelyDocs” was started, made it to the Google Play Store, then vanished. http://status.hackerposse.com/url/21522 in January, development of Dash for #iOS was discontinued. Wow. I know that iOS apps are a dumpster fire with all the platform changes, but that caught me off-guard. I do agree with http://status.hackerposse.com/url…

Is there something on #F-Droid that is similar to #iOS "Dash"? It is convenient to view the help / API docs for various scripting languages.

I've been using #Manyverse ( #SSB software client ) on #iOS and #Android a little over the past couple of months. The only way to 'meet' people and make contacts is to join a pub. Copying a 'pub' invite and pasting it into the client is not easy. It took several tries on the Apple iPad, and was only possible by learning to trick the text selection function. On Android, there ar…

And if you're considering #Shoyu ( #iOS app ) as your #GNU_Social client, it is garbage. It apparently was an old Twitter client that supports Twitter's functionality from several years ago, and very little else. It is slooo-o-o-o-o-o-owwwww to post, even when other clients are not. I haven't seen anything else for iOS that supports GS, but it might be worth going to the big bl…

Okay, boot loop slowed, so I was able to call for provisioning ... phone rebooted after 1-2 minutes of use, but was able to complete it on the 3rd call. The #iPhone was okay until #iOS 10.3.0, and then immediately started having severe battery life issues. Taking a little break and then comes the actual set up of the new phone and attempting to wipe the old one before shipping …

@amic I think most #iOS note-taking apps can store their data on iCloud. Editing text on iDevices is awful and painful, though. Without an external (e.g., Bluetooth) keyboard, it is faster and more reliable to erase and retype.

So very preliminary experience with #Session says this is not something that very many people will be willing to use. Even before I contact the kids to ask one of them to join me as a guinea pig, I installed the Session software on on #iOS tablet and one #Android tablet. I launched the iOS app, created an ID, flipped over to the "link a device" QR code, clicked "Link to an exis…
