Wow. #sonTwo, who turned from the #Unix administration (local college course taught using #Linux and #FreeBSD) and C++ (local college course using Windows IDE) to theater and photography when he was in high school, suddenly finds himself needing to become acquainted with #JavaScript.

$CELLULAR_CARRIER has one of the worst web sites for getting anything done. Not that their call-in operators are exactly great either, but I think I successfully removed #sonTwo and his wife from my plan. Now I just have to send in $160 to pay off another phone (lost in transit during the return process) and my bill should be around one-third to one-half what it was.

Back in the 1990s, a local radio station's call letters suggested a certain word, so they used that as their nickname. I've always since then used their call letters instead of that word.
#sonTwo told me today that he gets funny looks when he does that (because of course, no one in Missouri would know the history of the radio station calling itself by that word).
Gave me a chuckle.

I was on the phone with #sonTwo at the time. He called me stupid. I wasn't going to stay outside, I just wanted to be outside long enough to see the tornado and then run inside the hotel and find somewhere to shelter.

#sonTwo’s current thinking: The venue where he works is closed. He wants to avoid any repeat of this in future outbreaks or shutdowns, so he’s going to concentrate on a career change. I’m expecting him to finish setting up his servers now, so he can relearn the *nix admin stuff that I had him learning during middle school and part of high school. (Half his lifetime ago)…

I was a little worried that #Daddy_A would feel left out because I'm unlikely to be able to send him a #NAS or the server & rack for his birthday. Both #sonOne and #sonTwo got a NAS for their birthdays. During yesterday's videochat with 2nd son, I mentioned it and he said "you won't find out whether he takes it badly until you tell him, but I'm sure he will understand". So last…

#sonTwo sent me a link to a #Windows #SysAdmin opening not too far from his area. If I get this job, I can hang out with #GS3 on my days off.

Today’s discussions: * #sonTwo scrambling to find another job, plus complete some projects around the house (fencing the yard, making a vegetable garden). * #sonOne’s job is very busy recently, so he hasn’t had time for much of anything; #GD1 and #GD2 begin online classes tomorrow. * #Daddy_A was broke when the panic buying started, so he’s having to drive all over town…

#sonTwo got confirmation from his $EMPLOYER that they don’t have the funds to pay employees for 8 weeks, so after the paid 2 weeks, everyone will be laid off until they are allowed to open.

During today's conversation with #sonTwo, he told me he's going to plant a vegetable garden. When he was younger, it was difficult to get him to spend much time in the garden in the backyard. I have a feeling that he will now be a lot more eager to make sure that carrots and cucumbers grow.

#GS3 is walking and starting something similar to running. He’s still unsteady on his feet, so he has a weird leg movement and falls a lot, but he’s soon going to be challenging grandpa to races.
During his time off, #sonTwo is working to finish fencing the yard, so that my grandson and my granddoggy will both be contained in that space.

#sonTwo starting his job search now. Though he likes his $EMPLOYER and job, they will only have a limited amount of time that they can stay in business without revenue.

#sonTwo's mother-in-law ordered them a box of toilet paper that arrived today.

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/20470 It sounds like a good idea, at first. But if you think about it more deeply, you might not know which ones are just cheap and which ones cannot afford to stay closed for two months. For example, #sonTwo's $EMPLOYER gave them two paid weeks off, but now the governor of that state wants them to stay closed for eight weeks. There's a chance…

@geniusmusing As of yesterday, the local stores were nearly emptied of food, water, and paper products (bathroom and facial tissues, paper towels). #sonTwo said his local stores were also out of formula and baby wipes.

#Daddy_A's wife is on "work from home" due to #COVID-19 related shutdowns. #sonTwo's employer is on a two-week shutdown. The company is continuing to pay them, but might not be able to continue beyond that. #sonOne's employer put all office and data center employees on WFH. My mom's community groups: so far, one has discontinued all meetings until May. Still waiting to hear f…

#sonTwo said today "I'm a little worried about you and Grandma, because--I'm not gonna lie--you're old".
I don't think either of the other two could get away with saying that.
-
Also, #sonTwo called from his new phone number, so communications are restored.
-
This phones transition is really messing things up. Not able to reach #sonTwo at all.

@clacke I have still never seen any Carmen Sandiego cartoons. I think there was a series of DOS/Win9X games, and I’m sure I bought one for #sonTwo, but that was after I had bought “Math Blaster” and he had played it until he figured out it was just math drills, so I doubt he ever played the CS game.
