From SuperCDMS http://status.hackerposse.com/url/21859 on Twitter: The @SuperCDMS dilution refrigerator was transported underground securely by @SNOLABscience earlier in Feb and is being prepared for initial tests. Thank you @Fermilab for the delivery. With the fridge able to reach temperatures of <-270°C there are some 'ultra-cool' times ahead! http://status.hackerposse…

What a great week at Queen's University. The department was kind enough to let me use a faculty office whose occupant was away. That person was clearly a condensed matter/solid state expert. I was surrounded by the subject in books and charts. I kept having flashbacks to my C in solid state physics in college. Nevertheless, lessons from that class stuck around longer than…

Beautiful morning in Kingston! This is my last full day at Queen's University. The blue skies belies the winter storm landing here later today. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/f77b969f5883f07ea81a0643cf1d8e69a92bc5703803d9cf122e51a407e8c2ac/view

The other difference between moving from the US to Canada and moving from Twitter to the Fediverse is that you don't have to leave Twitter to move to the Fediverse...

The walks to and from my department at Queen’s have been lovely. Mornings are my favorite. I have been thrilled at the chance to sit in on classes and learn about the teaching styles and methods in use in physics classes. I am also grateful for the time to think about HALO data quality and PICO monitoring software. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/48ba517a6280a4cd0c7942ae5858ca0e5fbb24119e4d14bff8844beb4b135224/view

Having an amazing time at Queen's University this week. Trying to make connections with colleagues and really enjoying learning about courses and teaching. Astronomy seminar on galaxy mergers was captivating The snow was awesome today, too! https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/5fc144c84f94a4659d0371641fdd48de3e3a82fbccf80bb2086c443233ba56e8/view

Made it to Kingston pretty much right on-time, checked in to hotel, went to exercise, had dinner, and winding down. Not my typical Sunday, but I am happy to be here!

From AJamesMcCarthy http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22874 on Twitter: I spent much of the winter shooting this: The incredibly dynamic Orion Nebula. This is one of the most-captured objects in our sky, and my goal was to capture it in a way you've never seen it before. This was done using 6 different filters and over 40 hours worth of exposures. http://status.hackerposs…

Had a great time today working on the data monitoring pipeline for the PICO experiment, as well as data quality details for the HALO experiment. Really satisfying to see things moving ahead day-by-day toward science results!

From NobelPrize https://twitter.com/NobelPrize on Twitter: On 23 February 1987 the supernova SN 1987A became visible from the earth. Approximately ten million billion neutrinos from supernova SN 1987A reached physicist Masatoshi Koshiba's water tank, of which his research group detected 12, confirming theories of supernovae. https://twitter.com/NobelPrize/status/1628666240624472066/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/81a008b292f18433d046ce801cbf4538364e80031956c65378e6625fcb9f2ad9/view

The diffuse X-ray light seen with Chandra (pink) is caused by shock waves as a wind from the hot remnant of the star collides with the ejected atmosphere. NGC 7662 is about 0.73 light-years across. http://status.hackerposse.com/ur…

A little scene from yesterday's time in the underground lab at SNOLAB: bespoke ultra-pure water rains down inside of the UPW production plant. The sound and sight are beautiful. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/65e7cb3b0ae063d9d7f736c621f624e0a4188625496f2179ae1cbc95cf2dce29/view
