On my drive back from Kingston, I caught up on a bunch of http://status.hackerposse.com/url/24243 podcasts. I particularly enjoyed (as always) the latest episide of “This Week in Google”. I very specifically enjoyed the new character @ leo tried out: Senator Devil. Always the Devil’s Advocate, Senator Devil was a painful but useful counterpoint … perhaps much to t…

This day went (mostly) as planned, including the (final?) furniture delivery to our house. We finally have plenty of seating for guests in the living room, plus a sleeper sofa in one of the offices. The cats love the sleeper sofa. ‘Nuff said. Also, I finished the first major phase of a migration to Pandas Dataframes in a piece of monitoring software. Hooray for 50% fewe…

Sigh. Spending an evening poring over a Mac desktop stuck in recovery mode after a failed update. I know I sound like a Linux user … but this never happens in Linux. Well, never is strong. Less often than Windows and Mac OS.

There is nothing quite so satisfying as the process of morphing dozens of lines of numpy.array indexing and masking code by condensing it into one, or a few, lines of Pandas Dataframe magic. Very readable. Same results. WAY easier to maintain. I hope my colleagues on this project are as convinced of this migration as I am. :-D

Thoroughly enjoyed the @queensu Physics/Engr. Physics/Astronomy Colloquium yesterday by @NeutronJo, where she spoke about teaching models and shared lessons-learned. I really miss teaching, and her experiences make me look forward to doing it again.
