Admitting wrongdoing (or pushing through to a final judgement of wrongdoing) is important because this is intentionally lying to customers, and as a consequence, making customers unknowingly non-compliant with their relevant regulations. Potentially, medical offices that were using #Zoom during the period in question could have faced unexpected lawsuits. Therefore, IMO, a sett…

I’m not thrilled with this (or most) such settlements. As the article mentions, customers and users of #Zoom won’t get any compensation. As always, the company admits no wrongdoing. > The settlement is supported by the FTC's Republican majority, but Democrats on the commission objected because the agreement doesn't provide compensation to users. > "Today, the Federal Tra…

#FCC settles with #Zoom over intentionally false E2EE claims. > Zoom has agreed to upgrade its security practices in a tentative settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, which alleges that Zoom lied to users for years by claiming it offered end-to-end encryption. > "[S]ince at least 2016, Zoom misled users by touting that it offered 'end-to-end, 256-bit encryption' to se…

Tried to open a #Zoom conference on Rutabaga, but first it froze the whole thing, then after a forced reboot, I was eventually able to get audio-only.
If you don’t install their malware client, you can eventually get a view in browser link (click download the client, then let your browser discard the unwanted software), but you have to cross a hideous ReCaptcha gauntlet first.

One of my sisters is back at school. The students are still doing online work from home, but the teachers are actually in their classrooms. They’re using #Zoom (a class-wide session in the morning and another one in the afternoon) and using some online curriculum in between. The school district’s IT department is overloaded. They’re on “no overtime”, but they aren’…

Another #Zoom exploit?

Everyone keeps telling me there’s no download needed for #Zoom, but #MSEdge needed a download in order to handle the meeting. (I did not join a previous Zoom meeting my family held in mid-May because it needed a plugin downloaded for #Firefox.) Today, my co-worker S refused to join because of the plugin download for #MSIE 11.

My first #Zoom conference. Fortunately, we're not using webcams. They're showing slides.

You can now join #Zoom calls using #Firefox.
Well, apparently, you always could, but now audio will work.
Also, the meeting organizer must click a button to generate a web link or you’ll be taken to a page telling you to install their desktop program or a browser plugin.

#Uber lays off 3700 employees via #Zoom conferencing.
Is this the equivalent of breaking up via text message? It feels like it, but I do not know how they could have done it better. Did they tell 500-1000 at a time, or sit down and have one-to-one videochats?

While I was on #Wire with #sonTwo and #GS3, some of my siblings had their own videochat on #JitsiMeet with my mom. Apparently, it did not go so well this time, so they went on #Zoom (without my mom). One of my brothers sent me an e-mail where he accused me of brainwashing her against Zoom. I sent a long response. It took me a while to write, so hopefully I got past reacting to…

Kenny called me to ask about #Zoom. He has a relative that got invited to a Zoom conference and asked him for advice.
Told him to suggest that the meeting needs a password. Also sent him a link to #Jitsi_Meet, in case they want to try that instead.

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/20972 Someone recommending the closure of #Keybase accounts and rotating keys, passwords, and anything else that KB has touched. I probably have not been as vocal about it, but ever since I personally discovered (very early on in KB's existence) that following their default instructions uploaded your #privkey to their server, I have recommend…

#Zoom buys #Keybase as part of its plan to fix its security flaws. http://status.hackerposse.com/url/20970 [www cnbc com] Not sure that buying Keybase, a company that originally uploaded people's #GPG #privkey by default, is going to add any understanding of security at all. I've avoided them since I discovered they were uploading private keys by default (though I've heard they…

USD$7B? Dang. That's a lot. Is it all from his ownership stake in #Zoom? A lot of times, these guys have 2-3 former ventures which they've sold for big bucks before they reach the billionaire level.

S is supposed to call today and let me know what the final decision was on the #Zoom doctor visit. Very glad I'm not the patient ... what do you do when the doctor's office wants to do telemedicine over Zoom, but your friend that works in IT says not to do it?
-
I thought you were replying to http://status.hackerposse.com/url/20867 ... my son is doing tutorials based on some variety of #Ubuntu. My co-worker #S is trying to help someone decide whether to allow the doctor to videochat (via a system called "Zoom") instead of a face to face visit. It seems odd that they could use #Zoom unless they are HIPPA certified. With all the security…
