So clarifying to see the head of Collin County, TX, my home county, hasn't the courage to lead in a time of crisis. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/public-health/2020/07/03/these-north-texas-counties-are-balking-at-abbotts-statewide-mask-order/

When it comes to new cases during a pandemic... A straight, positive-sloped line on a logarithmic plot is a bad sign (it signals exponential growth). An exponential, positive-curved line on a log-plot is ... the stuff of nightmares. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/public-health/2020/07/03/dallas-county-reports-over-1000-new-coronavirus-cases-in-new-single-day-high-during-what-officials-say-is-the-deadliest-week-of-the-outbreak-so-far/ https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1279180687355138048/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/65889

<sarcasm> Nice to see Tarrant County taking a pleasant holiday weekend from disseminating health data on COVID-10. Because the virus will probably take a few days off, so why not? </sarcasm> https://www.dallasnews.com/news/public-health/2020/07/03/dallas-county-reports-over-1000-new-coronavirus-cases-in-new-single-day-high-during-what-officials-say-is-the-deadliest-week-of-the-outbreak-so-far/

Tested out of "Canvas LMS training" the other day. Irony: the quiz to test out checks only rote memorization of technical details (like how to load an image into a page), rather than on demonstrating how you learn to use Canvas, or on translating a course into Canvas. Sigh.

"USC reverses robust fall reopening plans, asks students to stay home for online classes." USC has traditionally been upheld as an institution to which my own "aspires." As coronavirus cases skyrocket across Texas, hospitals grapple with patient influxes Our Lombardy or New York moment is approaching. This was preventable. Protect our medical workers by staying home, avoiding crowds, wearing a mask. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/as-coronavirus-cases-skyrocket-across-texas-hospitals-grapple-with-patient-influxes/2020/07/02/53a9f5fe-b9a9-11ea-80b9-40ece9a701dc_story.html

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/21496 It sounds like their claims are a little inflated. Able to bypass deep packet inspection? Not likely, though their techniques may temporarily evade the pattern matching that leads to URL blocks. If $ISP does not block #VPN, that might be a better option than #GreenTunnel. (Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad someone is trying different …

Bumped one of my feet against something recently (same foot that I whacked pretty hard against a piece of sidewalk when I was working in Puerto Rico). Two toes and the ball of my foot are sore, three toes are partially numb. (It was worse in #PR, because it hurt more and my foot was swollen for a long while after.) Having lived through this already, I know the routine. The pain…

> why does Hollywood still exist as a concept? Because the megacorps that constitute "Hollywood" have tight control of the largest distribution channels (thanks to outsized influence in Congress, the Eastern District Court of Texas, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Oh, and because they can find someone who is succeeding outside of their control and dangle a c…

Also, the way they get every college, every magazine, every possible place that helps train singers, musicians, actors, and so on to convince up and coming creatives that they have no income possible without strong(er) copyright and more enforcement. Since there's no way that Joe Independent MovieMaker can afford to file DMCA suits against copyright violators, they run into the…

It’s weird, because I like a little reverb in music, but in a spoken program like a video of a tech conference, echo tends to cause me ear pain after a while.

"I have said it before but it is worth repeating: I find the Fediverse is filled with people with excellent self-taught computer skills, that would be an asset to any company, that are trapped in menial work. This is a major failing of our system." --@moon@shitposter.club http://status.hackerposse.com/url/21492 Yes, yes it is. A few decades ago, when I was a business major, I …

#sonTwo tells me that #GS3 is playing with the granddoggy's new ball more than she is. I guess he like hers better than the ball I sent for him.

He is also playing fetch like the dog does ... toss a ball and he will retrieve it and bring it back to you.

Made two unplanned stops at stores I was passing, but now at the Mexican market in the next city over.
