@guizzy From what I hear, that's also why it's good not to share space with bears. They can lose their fear.

#NOAA / #NHC: TD #ETA is back in the Caribbean, heading toward #Cuba. The Tropical Depression is expected to strengthen back to Tropical Storm strength overnight. Those in Cuba and #Florida should pay attention and prepare. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

I always liked After The Fire's version of Der Kommissar ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBfFDTPPlaM ) better than Falco's version ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-bgiiTxhzM ) just because ATF translated it into English.
It seems like they were released pretty close together. I used to hear both of them on the radio (ATF more), but I only recall seeing Falco's video before tonight.

Is tonight a George McCrae night? I'm not sure yet.
(You know, I've only ever heard the one hit song of his. I should find out what else he recorded.)
-
Hmm. I've spent an hour humming Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby". Back when that song was out, I had a friend named James. James listened to that song as often as possible as we sat on his porch, where he could see his neighbor's girlfriend that he was hot for (and I could see the other neighbor (Benny)'s wife that I was hot for). James isn't easily found in a Web search, so…

#NOAA / #NWS has issued a follow-up on that Winter storm advisory. A Winter storm warning is issued for the mountains of #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties between 2020-11-07 03:00 PST and 2020-11-08 18:00 PST. Heavy snow, enough to break branches off of trees. Reduced visibility. They don't mention the wind, but today has already been an enhanced wind conditions day. If y…

#NOAA / #NWS issuing flash flood watch in !SoCal's #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties ... areas near the Apple Fire and El Dorado Fire burn scars, including San Gorgonio Pass and Banning. Locally heavy rains could result in debris flows in and below the burned areas. Normally dry riverbeds and culverts may be overwhelmed with water, mud, rocks, and other debris. Dangerous …

Charter / Spectrum has someone going door to door in my neighborhood trying to get new customers. I remember hearing people talk about their frequently increasing rates back when I was here enough to know some local residents.

$4000...woah: https://www.geekdashboard.com/best-vr-headsets-for-xbox-one/
-
so, I thought, well, it says up-to $4000, but well, starts at $3500: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/holoLens-2/91pnzzznzwcp/?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab
All of the good ones are a few hundred dollars. I just feel like I wouldn't use it enough to justify that.
I was thinking like $300.
Oculus seems to get pretty close, but I don't want to Zuck money.

I'm not sure I'd ever use a 3D headset. Just a few minutes of 3D on the #3DS and I turned that completely off.
Maybe I'll change my mind when I can get to KC and try the 3D lightsaber game that #sonOne and #GD1 play.
-
yeah, 3D is definitely different than VR. I am thinking more for meetings, but until there's an #opensource VR headset our customers are asking us to support, I can't see us being able to convince management to get those. I was thinking, very specifically, about family gatherings. The http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22733 terms are lame, but it's a good idea. Last year, one o…

Let me guess: threatening lawyer letter from N?

Okay, someone on the forum suggested that it was pre-emptive ... to remove any reason that N could find to sue the emulator project.

Received an update to Outlook on the $EMPLOYER iPhone. Now, I can read a few lines of the e-mail in the notifications on the lock screen.
I know there are privacy implications, but if you receive hundreds of e-mail messages per day, you need that to tell you whether this is one of the ten or so must-read messages or part of the greater quantity that can be discarded unread or at least delayed.

So ... about GNU #Jami ... when I tried it, there were lots of annoyances that made it not ready for prime time. Has anyone looked at it recently?
-
With #Matrix, the #Riot.im client was replaced by #Element, which is buggy. In the process, the upstream used to produce the #miniVector client was disrupted, so that client is discontinued. #Pattle's developer also decided to discontinued it.
I'll have to look around #F-droid to see what else is available.

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22731 I'm particularly unhappy about Prop 22 passing. That's the one in which Uber and similar companies spent record amounts of money to give themselves a loophole from laws requiring that they treat their "independent contractors" as employees, since they exercise employer level control over the way work is done. This is as repulsive as the …

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22729 [www wpbeginner com] How to choose the best blogging platform. Unsurprisingly, they chose #WordPress, and specifically the self-hosted ".org" version of WordPress. Based on their criteria, it is hard to argue that most widely-used platforms are either harder to use or may be hard to get a useful export if you decide to leave them. I just …

I am attempting to set up an #okd cluster, but my bootstrap server is not getting an IP from DHCP. Since there is no password given, and all the troubleshooting tools require ssh, I’m pretty stuck. Does anybody have any ideas?
-
Is your host server configured so that your containers are visible to the network's DHCP server? Or if they're only internal, is there an internal DHCP service within your container platform?
-
well, sorta...ssh, which is useless considering I don't get an IP. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't get DHCP. it seems to have at least one adapter active.
I probably just need to use one of our images instead of CoreOS, but I'm not sure the reast of the yaml will work in that case. Seems like a house of cards.
-
this may be the answer (the trick is to actually get it to work): https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/tutorial-autologin/
At that point, in theory, I can assign a static IP address.

#NOAA / #NWS alerting: Winter weather advisory for the mountains of #San_Bernardino and #Riverside Counties. Likely also San Diego and Imperial counties, but they're outside my alerts zone. From 2020-11-06 21:00 PST to 2020-11-07 22:00 PST, advisory is in effect above 5,000 feet. Moderate snow, wind gusts to 40-50MPH; expect difficult travel conditions.

It is only 19:58 and I'm as tired as I'd normally get staying up until 01:00. I should go to bed.
-
20h is when I start getting the cats ready for bed, which means: * moist food both * teeth brush both (sometimes nail clipping for both since we've already got them wrangled). Brushing Odie's teeth is a two-person job. The vet is impressed with his strength, determination, and agility. I have to wear essentially falconer gloves to deal with him, but he's gotten to the point whe…

Went to #In-N-Out today, because I've been wanting their food for a while. Of course, I've also been wanting #pizza for a while, but I have not yet gone to any pizza places.
