@amic True. But not only food service. #sonTwo had a retail job where they'd schedule him for 15-20 hours, then call him in until he hit 40. It meant he could not plan anything, not even college classes.

#GS3 goes to his toy box to get things to play with. I want to tell my daughter-in-law that #sonTwo never learned to put things away after he’s done (well, not before he moved out), so she should start teaching his son now.

“A trailer park with a big workshop area” The trailer parks I’ve seen are the ones where the landlord owns not only the land underneath, but the trailers as well. That type of park is all about not spending any more than the locality requires. There’s usually a shared laundry building and maybe an old and unmaintained playground, one parking space per trailer, and that…

Found two HDDs that should fit #sonTwo's Dell 1850 server, but not my 1950 or 2950. I'll send them once I have a little money.

2006: I was working in upstate #NY. One night I was browsing random websites and I came across what looked like a teen girl's online diary with a recent entry about her newly-deceased boyfriend. The boyfriend had the same name as #sonTwo, who had not called that evening. It was 03:00, but I called him. He was alive. We later figured out the "diary" was likely a creative writing…

Still waiting for that vendor to send me a shipping-paid label for the server return. I'm starting to get angry about it. They made a mistake (sent some kind of Citrix-branded server instead of the Dell that was ordered). When I asked to return the erroneous product, they sent a label that requires me (or more accurately, #sonTwo, since he's got the equipment) to pay shipping costs.

Well, announced to #sonOne and #Daddy_A that there's no money available for their kids' Christmas gifts this year. #sonTwo already specifically requested no gifts this year.
.
I'm probably going to videochat with #GD1 and #GD2 to tell them myself. I'll text #GS1 also.

Final (?) decision: Neither I nor #sonOne will ship our existing servers to #sonTwo; that model (a used Dell PowerEdge 2950 Gen 3) was chosen specifically because we each have one (makes support easier). We may look at getting a cheap LEB VPS that 2nd son and #Daddy_A can log into and practice on while they await their physical servers.

"Talking" (via #Wire text chat) with all three kids. We're discussing ways to speed up server delivery to #sonTwo by using in-family resources.

This actually happened to #sonTwo right after high school. Then the coffee shop he worked at fired him (no reason given, but I suspected it was because he claimed OT for working over 100 hours per week).

Grumbling to #sonTwo about this shipping error. We have to wait for a return authorization and shipping label, then send the Citrix machine back, wait for it to be delivered. Then, they’ll either send the correct server or refund my money. So instead of most of November, the timeline now goes from early November into December and potentially January.
Bad timing for this sort of mistake.

#sonTwo tells me the used Dell server I ordered a few weeks ago is not what arrived yesterday. He said this is a smaller box that says Citrix on it. Awaiting pictures now.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws5klxbI87I "I am the walrus"
.
When I was in high school, my friends were mostly Beatles fans. They used to chase me around the campus, singing this song I disliked. Years later, when #sonTwo and #Daddy_A were in middle school, a friend would buy Beatles cassettes to give to the older of the two. Even then, I said I am the walrus would not be allowed.

@geniusmusing You might say I'm the one that is nuts for buying these used servers when I'm gone so often. But #sonOne got his first one for $99, and before I knew it, I'd found five more for the same price*. I was going to ship one to @amic, but it would have cost more to ship than I paid for it (including shipping) to begin with. * #sonTwo bought one for me as a present, exp…

#sonTwo told me tonight that a co-worker passed away about 10 days after contracting (or finding out he had) some rare disease that mostly affects Blacks. He didn't know what it was called, so I've been trawling through links like https://nu.federati.net/url/251588 [zimeye\.net] trying to find out what it could have been.
He doesn't think it was contagious.

Found a #MacGrill near #Sac. This chain used to be a favorite place for me and #sonTwo.

I just had about 2 1/2 hours of (separate) videochats with #sonOne and #sonTwo (and #GD1 and #GD2). The little girls are a lot more animated and engaged on video than they are on regular phone calls.
I already videochat regularly with my 31 year old son (and his family) and my 8 year old granddaughter, so it was great to have her sister and her dad join in.

All I have to say about #asparagus is this:
Every time and every way I’ve ever tried to eat asparagus, it always tastes awful. With one exception. #sonTwo cooked some asparagus on the BBQ one time. Whatever he did to it, it was delicious.
(I’m eating a microwave veggie meal with corn, carrots, asparagus.)

Started executing my part of the 'midwest assignment maneuver' ... noticed that the last time I was "home" for the holidays was 2014. I did see #sonOne and family during the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
.
The goal of this maneuver is to see both #sonOne and #sonTwo this year; my stated reason for ending this assignment is "spend holidays with family".

Years ago, #sonTwo bought me a used server off #eBay. It got shipped to his home instead of mine, so it's still in the box, waiting for me to pick it up. In anticipation of a role change at work, he wants to set it up and practice. So now I'm ordering HDDs, cables, a UPS, a short rack, etc.
