LOL. Last night (well, this morning at 03:00), I turned off the laptop with "install updates and shut down".
Turned the #Win10 laptop on a little while ago and now it wants to reboot again. Why have they not mastered installing all the available updates at once, then requiring a reboot?

Fun little outage here last night. It was only something like 5 minutes without Internet service, but when it came back, DNS took about 30 minutes to start working. My router (the one I control, not the modem/router the ISP provides) currently uses OpenDNS and Google DNS *, neither of which was passing through the ISP router at first. Eventually, queries started passing throug…

Reminded me of a situation at work several years ago. There was a small branch office about 90-120 minutes away (depending on traffic) from our local facility. Because of its size, the office had no on-site tech support. We started getting phone calls about not having any Internet service. We did some troubleshooting over the phone. It looks like it is an outage. We called th…

@chimo@sn.chromic.org has closed most of his services. He wrote that he was tired and weary. Hopefully, he'll find a way to regenerate and be able to rejoin us in the future.

Last night: Your device will restart ...
Me: I'll run Chocolatey's updates, that way you can all be done.
At 03:00, Chocolatey says: Okay, we're done.

Zillions of years ago, I used #Keepass on Windows with extensions to work directly with the browser. Then I switched to #KeepassX, because the same program worked on Linux. Recently, I’ve started migrating toward #KeepassXC ... once again, the browser extensions are working nicely on Windows. (I haven’t tried KeepassXC yet on Linux, because I need to upgrade my main laptop …

@bthall sent me this link: Nearly 100K new #COVID-19 cases among US children in last two weeks of July. https://nu.federati.net/url/273836 [www nbcnews com]
Article notes that different states are using different definitions of “child”, so some cut it off at 14 years of age, while others may go as high as 24.

I know there's a lot of pressure on #USPS right now, and I've had my share of lost and delayed letters and packages, but they aren't the only ones that have problems sometimes. One time, I returned from an assignment with $EMPLOYER. I had five days to get my travel reimbursement filed. At the time, I had a landline and a fax machine, so I kept trying to fax it, but it kept disc…

Was going to send a link to a #Udemy course, but of course, when I clicked "share" from the course (being logged in), I got a tracking link.
No, I'm not going to let you track which person I send which course. I can grab the link from the browser addressbar without the unwanted garbage, so that's what I did.

> I'm no vegan or vegetarian ... -- http://status.hackerposse.com/url/21961 That's how it starts. This time next year, you'll be trembling and wondering if you've been poisoned and it will turn out someone put a bit of beef fat in your soy-powered lunch. ;-) Honestly, I'm glad to see people that will occasionally purchase the veggie options, because I want those options to re…

While my county, Collin, is apparently headed in the right direction with total tests... the state as a whole seems to be in trouble. https://twitter.com/COVID19Tracking/status/1292962030194917379

COVID-19 cases in Collin County, TX, are shooting up... but this appears to be driven by a recent surge in testing. The County now reports about 3000 tests/day, up from 1000/day just last week. This drives positivity rate from 16% to 7%. Will take time to settle this out. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1292977584683266049/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/66991

Violent #anti-maskers. I sincerely hope this person is caught. If you don't like mask rules in privately-owned "public" places, stay home. If you can't control your anger, go see a counselor before you end up in jail.

There are some structural issues to overcome, but @amic is working to overcome those. In the meantime, if you can send a little funding, you can help them get a license and keep a roof over their head until they get a cheaper apartment and a better job.

Talked to someone that works at a local medical facility and dates a local police officer. She says the local violent crime rate is increasing. Ordinarily, I'd say her perspective skews her perception, but whenever I check the local news organizations' sites, I see more crime stories than they've ever covered before.
(She went to school with my youngest two boys.)

If you're in mid-Missouri, be alert. There are both severe #t-storm and flash flooding alerts coming out of #NOAA / #NWS today. Some also for the Kansas City metro area.
