About Senator John Tunney ( see https://nu.federati.net/notice/3328469 ), I remember the "Senator Flip-Flop" commercials during one of the campaigns. And I remember watching most of "The Candidate" on TV and thinking that it reminded me of him.

UNC-Chapel Hill launches in person despite coronavirus crisis Ambassadors at the doors to tell you which way to go. Traffic pattern markings. And that is just from the front door to the classroom. You need a multimedia team for what happens next. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/unc-chapel-hill-launches-in-person-despite-coronavirus-crisis/2020/08/11/972681b2-da38-11ea-809e-b8be57ba616e_story.html

It's a good thing this woman got the TV station to take up her case. There's little chance that #Comcast or any other large company would have done the right thing otherwise. https://boston.cbslocal.com/2020/08/10/coronavirus-deaths-quincy-comcast-bill/ [boston cbslocal com]

I don’t know if any of you are in #Georgia, but if you are: https://www.vote-2020.org/ says that vote by mail is an available alternative ... https://georgia.gov/vote-absentee-ballot will have more info. #GA

Went to the laundromat, washed clothes. The TV was playing “Big Bang Theory”. I like the show even less when I’m not watching but I still hear the audio.
-
Today, the #coin_laundry had an average number of customers. They had signs up about a coin shortage, asking people to only use the change machine if they were doing laundry on site. By the time I finished, most of the earlier customers had left, and a smaller number of new customers had arrived.

I guess I should be glad that #USA isn’t the only place where #anti-maskers rant and threaten. This one is in #Australia. https://nu.federati.net/url/273869

#anti-maskers pretend to be government agents to disuade employees from enforcing store policies ... if anything, they should be celebrating the fact that business owners & managers are able to establish policies that apply when one is on their property.

You can’t make this stuff up. More than 800 #GA students told to self-isolate after being exposed to #SARS-CoV-2, the #coronavirus that causes #COVID-19, at school. And some people think this is right time to reopen the schools!

”More than 30,000 of the district’s 42,000 students went back for in-classroom instruction when schools reopened, with the others opting for virtual learning.”
The way I understand it, the district decided that only X number of students would be allowed to attend virtually and used force of law to compel the others to attend in person.

Looks like #Mozilla is in some trouble. Laid off 1/4 of its workforce—250 people—and is going to focus on revenue-generating projects. https://nu.federati.net/url/273858 [www theverge com]

I think I’ve written this before, but back in their heyday, #Mozilla was flying high, driven by the funds coming from its search deal with #Google. When the GOOG started to cut back and then launched a competing browser, Moz panicked (rightly) because all the high-sounding promises they made were predicated on this huge level of funding that went away. Now that #Firefox hold…
-
The decisions that #Mozilla made in their search for more money have not made things better, either. They integrated #Pocket into Firefox and eventually purchased Pocket, but privacy-aware people have always considered Pocket and similar software to be dangerous. Thus, “use Firefox, the privacy-oriented browser” becomes “avoid Firefox unless you turn off their data-collec…
-
When I write these things, I’m not trying to condemn #Mozilla. Once their primary funder also became their primary competitor, the handwriting was on the wall. Unless a new fiscal beneficiary suddenly appears or one of these money-making products catches on, their future is bleak. Probably the last hope is to make Firefox code understandable enough that the user community c…

I see people talking about shows like "American Idol" and "America's Got Tallent" and in my head, I see "The Gong Show".
(I don't think I've seen a full episode of either of the newer shows, just clips on YouTube.)
