I went with two of the cheap $11 dolls for #Little_Girl_A3’s birthday present. I figure she’s turning 3, so no need to start spending $50 or more, even if I could afford it. Likewise, I bought the $20 Nintendo Mario “diorama” kit for #Little_Boy_A2’s birthday instead of the $40 remote control race car. He’s turning 4. Plus, since their birthdays are about a week …

I guess my point is that toys for 3 and 4 year olds have gotten a lot more expensive as parents have let them get attached to TV and game characters. I saw something that I think the boy would have loved, had he not been enthralled by Nintendo’s Mario character. Maybe I should have got both of them Blue’s Clues watches. They’d be wearing a character on their wrists, but …

I know this is an old episode, but Ellen just gave half the studio audience a five-day trip to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas.

I don't use a forklift in my job, but the agency logisticians did make sure I can use a pallet jack when necessary.

A former boss got elevated to corporate ... he replaced the Executive VP for Operations but AFAIK didn't get the same title or pay.
The guy he replaced is an ultra-bastard.

Nothing inspires confidence in public health systems like seeing a giant red warning about the reliability of the state's data on the public health data portal. Go Texas. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1295847622863917058/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/67101

Even if I'm no talk show fan, this is superior to "the Big Bang Theory".

...student newspaper sums up schools coronavirus policy with an f-bomb the universitys leadership should have expected students, many of whom are now living on their own for the first time, to be reckless. Bad policy is the policy-makers fault. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/08/17/unc-cluster-coronavirus/

#usgs reports twenty earthquakes over the past 24 hours in Baja California, Mexico. The largest was an M5.1 followed about a minute later by an M4.5. I did not look for damage reports.

Also one M5.2 on the mid-Atlantic Ocean ridge and one M5.7 on the SW Indian Ocean ridge (and a 4.9 S of South Africa ... they didn’t say whether the ridge extends there, but it appears to be the same seismic boundary zone).

Today, I discovered #Alfred ( http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22047 ). A.L.F.R.E.D. — Almighty Lightweight Fact Remote Exchange Daemon — is definitely a “backronym”. Alfred is a user space daemon for distributing arbitrary local information over a mesh (or other?) network in a decentralized fashion. As one might guess, it was originally created to run across Batman-A…

Just so no one is deceived, I have not tried or used any of the above. I just discovered and read about Alfred today.

My nephew is working 28 hours per week, borrowing his mom’s car to drive 50 miles and back. He doesn’t help with any of the bills, because he makes so little. And yet, day after day, he eats fast food ... either going through the drive-through or getting it delivered. I just don’t get it. The kitchen is well-stocked, and there’s usually some left-overs if he doesn’t …
