Mostly I'm doing this because of the unreliability of git.gnu.io and the change of language on their home page about how it isn't a personal repo. Although this might be the Paranoid Me speaking, that says to me that I'm not welcome there and need to fuck off. -

Been setting up GitLab for an hour now because of a mire of needing very specific versions of everything and oh god is that the special Linux hell. -

@inmysocks Breathe in, breathe out. The world will continue. Maybe it will be worse, maybe it will be better, but it most certainly is not going to end. America has not just "died" like many people histrionically suggest elsewhere. Someone that is genuinely upset by this result is better-served, in my opinion, by calming the fuck down and taking some time to b… -

@pennyfortheguy I don't mind respectful discussion but it is perhaps better to pre-empt the *inevitable* arguments especially given how people are reacting to this.
And I mean, given I'm Canadian/British, my opinion means basically fuck-all anyways. The most I can do is offer advice to my friends whom are American. -

And I'm going to make a point here of saying that I don't really want to discuss it further or get caught up in those stupid, stupid arguements, please respect that and don't include me in them. -

I think that's the totality of my election sentiments, so I'm going to stop myself there before I get caught up in it, because American politics is cancer and I already have enough wrong with me without adding cancer to the equation. -

@pennyfortheguy Money, power, fame, social status, the "thrill" of winning, feelings of importance, feelings of inadequecy, learned helplessness, these are all factors. -

@pennyfortheguy Look at how many Hillary supporters are upset not at opposing values Trump represents, but instead are upset simply that Trump won, or that [label they apply to Trump followers] won. The Other Side won. The Enemy. That's what they focus on, what they care about. If you genuinely want to fix your country, that's what you have to attack - that pe… -

@pennyfortheguy The thing with indoctrination, this gets into heavy psych that even 1000 characters can't explain, but in basic very general terms, no one can make you believe something that at least SOME part of you doesn't want to believe outside of physical negative reinforcement therapy, which frankly, is also known as something else. That something else is tor… -

@pennyfortheguy @inmysocks The root problem is that people in America vote to "win" in the election. They don't care about the principles of that side, they just want to be seen as on the "winning side". Resolving that attitude is complex since it is very cultural. -

@inmysocks The power of any political entity lies in the hand of those whom vote for it. If people don't vote for it, it loses its power. -

@inmysocks We have first past the post which can be deeply problematic but it hasn't seemed as big an issue here as in the states.
Really the problem in the states come down to the fact that people complain about the power of the main two parties but do nothing about it. Slacktivism fixes nothing. They have to actually act. -

I'm honestly kind of glad Trudeau's been in front of the cameras so much, even though it leads to no small degree of snide remarks from foreigners. The more time he spends preening for the cameras, the less chance he's had to fuck things up. -

Like holy fuck did they suffer in the last election. It wasn't so much that the Liberals beat the Conservatives, it was that all the NDP ridings were belong to the Liberals now. -

@pennyfortheguy @bob Now we basically have three major parties and a couple minor parties with considerable clout. Liberal Party, Conservative Party, New Democratic Party, and then the Green Party and Bloc Quebecois.
(The Pirate Party's star's been on the rise in some provinces, but they haven't made any breakthroughs nationally yet.) -

@pennyfortheguy @bob People unaware of our history might not realize it, but Canada also had a two-party system for a long long time. The difference was, when people became dissatisfied with the two major parties, they voted for a third party. America has missed several opprotunities to do so, to the point its become quite obvious they have no interest in doing so. -

@bob @pennyfortheguy There were more than those two choices, but the American public decided against adopting others. The thing about the dominance of the two party system is this is something that is empowered by the people. They are directly responsible for it.
