@rw For all the pretentious indie shit about storytelling, there's really only three modern studios that I think are worth a shit for storytelling: From Software, Spiderweb Software, and Supergiant Games.

@rw I don't like to use this criticism because its often misapplied and misunderstood, but I really felt like Torchlight was "trying too hard".  It didn't say no to it's players and as a result what you get is such a homogenized, bland experience that it may be palatable in the moment it has absolutely no staying power.  It's what I call a popcorn game.  it might …

@rw It really stuck with me because while a lot of games try to do emotional moments, they rarely really have any gravity or feeling of significance to them, but Dark Souls 1 managed that with the ending in spades.  It's not a happy feeling, but that's not what From was trying to do anyways.

@rw I actually didn't mind the Solaire arc at all but 4 Kings was painful.  The ending made it worth it to me but now that I know the ending I don't really feel the need to replay the build up at all because it was painful.

@rw @why Sacred 1 was great if you get it with Underworld as well, since it fixed a lot of the problems with the base game.  2 was just okay but I enjoyed it better than Diablo 2 which is ironic since it was emulating D2.  We don't talk about Sacred 3, it was just a cashin by Deep Silver anyways. Torchlight in both iterations is about as challening as getting @kat…

@rw The lore and world-building really is the key to this series to me, without it, Bloodborne is destined to be forgotten.

@rw There was that certain essence at the heart of the KF and DS series that I don't think Bloodborne had.  It didn't have that proverbial spark.  It feels like it is somewhat adrift and aimless without a sense of it's own identity.

@rw DS1 is a game I really want to like more than I did given its probably the best in the series lore wise.  Its also unfortunately the most shit in the series technically though :c

@rw Heh, meanwhile I still go back to DS1 and 2 occasionally, even with DS1s absolutely shit PC port.

@rw I haven't played Dark Souls 3 yet and everything ,I've read about it makes me think I'm not missing much.  Even though Tabitha was positive in her review for it on Highland Arrow the things she said in that review kind of confirm to me that at the very best I'm waiting till iut goes on some good sale (maybe christmas) to grab it.
