maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:36:23 EST maiyannah @verius Well, yes and no. In general a well-functioning community can just live and let live. To use an expression, it "doesn't sweat the small stuff." Which is why many reactionaries and activist communities are not well-functioning community. For instance, you and I have agreed on some things and disagreed on others, in discussing politics or personal views,… -

maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:32:05 EST maiyannah I just spent a silly amount of time trying to find my printer model on Brother's website to link to someone. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:30:42 EST maiyannah @verius Laws, rules, or regulations don't prevent issues, they provide the means by which issues are remedied when they occur. I feel this is the fundamental misunderstanding most people have about that kind of thing. What prevents or mitigates issues are how the community reacts to various things and that's a difficult thing to force. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:27:40 EST maiyannah @stigatle I was a sucker for a new Master of Orion game but I can't say I was too impressed with this one. There's nothing there that isn't done better by MoO2 -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:26:57 EST maiyannah @verius @camoceltic Both super high and super low contrast are hard on people with vision problems. Avoid thin fonts. Try to avoid using specific colours as indicators because they can be confused with those with colourblindeness. This stuff is aimed towards game dev, but there's some good thoughts that can still be garnered from it: http://status.hackerposse… -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:09:33 EST maiyannah @stigatle The new Master of Orion game, presently. I am also going to be doing the new Doom, and Shadow Warrior 2, in coming days. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:09:06 EST maiyannah @verius @camoceltic I prefer anything but, really. As someone with vision problems dark mode is actually really hard on my eyes. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:07:59 EST maiyannah @archaeme Hey, your printer is the newer version of my old faithful. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 04:06:50 EST maiyannah It legitimately feels good to be writing a game review again. I am a woman that finds comfort and entertainment in strange things sometimes. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 03:58:03 EST maiyannah So I might've just written like 800 words of the Master of Orion 4 review just on how bland and uninspired its soundtrack is.
I might try to cut that back a little. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 03:55:52 EST maiyannah @bob While I'd agree that's getting a bit "meta" from my point of "ignoring the world doesn't make it go away". As people we seem to procrastinate away at our problems rather than making active attempts to fix them. I wonder if there's an aspect of learned helplessness to it, given the state of various sociopolitical systems worldwide right now. This seems likely. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 03:52:45 EST maiyannah tfw you know you're misspelling something but you've mispelt it so badly that even spellcheck can't help you. -

maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 03:29:58 EST maiyannah @bob We're in that world, like it or not, and willfully refusing to acknowledge how that is just means we're avoiding problems rather than doing anything to address them. -

maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2016 03:18:39 EST maiyannah @sim @nerthos They're much easier to tailor, if you're having someone actually make you one. So there's that. But in a day where machines or small children in Chinese sweatshops are making things, rather than professionals, that's less of a thing. -
