I seem to recall there's a standard API that should be common to all the #StatusNet derivitave servers. I'm pretty sure that in its infancy Mastodon conformed to that API. But Mastodon's API expanded beyond that, and I suspect some of the common API was removed, probably around the time #OStatus was dropped from Mastodon too. But that's sheer speculation on my part. Time to upgra…

Definitely all #GS (and #StatusNet if there are any left; and #postActiv) instances, most #Friendica and a few #Hubzilla instances. A few remaining (not updated) #Mastodon and #Pleroma instances.
At one time, there was a plugin for WordPress that let people comment over #OStatus. I do not know if said plugin is still maintained.

Wondering how far #ostatus extends after some places dropped support for it.

@licho #Mastodon 3.x and #Pleroma 2x no longer speak the #OStatus federation protocol. !GNUsocial 2.0 will add the #ActivityPub federation protocol, so ask your admin to be ready to upgrade soon.

@xj9 #GNU_Social's #ActivityPub support is not quite ready for use in non-testing instances. Currently, there's a problem with verifying Mastodon's signatures. ( Neither @lain@lain.com nor @tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com can see this response because their instances no longer speak #OStatus. )

@strypey We're using #OStatus right now.

Very quiet in the #fediverse the last few days. Wonder if #Mastodon has dropped #OStatus support.

Yeah, GNU/FSF have never put any resources in to GNU social apart from maintaining the general !fs politics worldwide. Originally Evan had startup grants, I just put in my free time (which I barely have any left nowadays) and @diogo got the gsoc stuff. While I enjoy the !ostatus solution much more than ActivityPub maybr we should see what has been generated "outside" …

-
@dansup Regardless of your federated distribution protocol/API you should support Atom and RSS feeds for standard feed readers to consume the content. That's basically the same (halfway there) as supporting !OStatus.

You mean how !OStatus is kind of exactly that, because it just extends ordinary blogs with some social metadata but in the end it's technically the same thing as a blog's feed beefed up with a push-callback-service instead of reinventing the wheel entirely with ActivityPub? .P

@fdroidorg Fantastic, !OStatus updates from my favourite repository!

@HerraBRE !OStatus (via /.well-known/host-meta and LRDD such as #WebFinger) lets you create aliases on any given domain name. Your alias in !OStatus is just like #WebID, any random string. However, implementations seem to assume it should be a full WebFinger ID such as http://status.hackerposse.com/url/6735 (which is actually just the human-friendly way to address a l…

This is wrong. #OStatus is a server-to-server protocol, #AndStatus connects to servers using server-to-client protocols. This is why AndStatus doesn't know and doesn't depend on OStatus protocol.
Moreover, #Mastodon 's client-to-server protocol is still based on outdated Twitter like API, not on #ActivityPub, unfortunately.
