@mangeurdenuage There are also some sites that try to prevent copy-pasting passwords. I think PayPal does this when people are changing passwords. It's evil, but if users have #JavaScript / #JabbaShit activated, sites can do things like this. I do agree that users need to be willing to think and to learn something when using computing devices. Trying not to have to think, not t…

@mangeurdenuage Sounds like PleromaFE. I think some instances run alternate front ends which may or may not work without #JavaScript / #JabbaShit.

"Your browser is not Javascript enable or you have turn it off. We recommend you to activate for better security reason"
Oh, yes. Turning on #JavaScript / #JabbaShit is going to improve my security as you plunder my browser history and upload my files and photos to your server. I will turn it on right away.

JS-based webapps are a lot like adding salt to one's food. There's a point where you're simulating food with colored salt. No matter how appealing it looks, it is still nasty and harmful.
#JavaScript #JabbaShit

Probably time to look into replacing Rutabaga (the Lenovo IdeaPad with 2G of RAM and 32G of eMMC disk). I was using it to look up some instructions for something I was doing on another machine. One link opened YouTube in another tab and immediately froze the machine. After a reboot, I went back in. The next link opened a tab full of #JavaScript. The #JabbaShit, predictably, suc…

@musicman @strypey Also, in the process of reading about it, I came across https://nu.federati.net/url/266568 [wapo]
Turn off #JavaScript / #JabbaShit and their “turn off your adblocker” garbage won’t interfere.
There are still a number of places where I saw “underfunded and ineffective”, but this is someone that worked there (possibly during the time when Trump is said to have shut down PRT).

If I get TME* this week, I'll set up a #Friendica instance for !fnetworks ... membership is only available to people with currently active Federati accounts. I was going to set up #Pleroma, but the PleromaFE interface has too much #JavaScript / #JabbaShit piled up ... It causes my browsers to repeatedly pop up warnings about a hung script. Consider it a testing instance for the…

https://www.calbcc.org/post/black-codes
Note: this is hosted on WIX, so I had to disable styles in order to view the article text. (I suppose there's some #JavaScript / #JabbaShit that re-enables viewing and scrolling, but I'm not about to turn on #JS for a #WIX site.)

@strypey Another reason to block #JabbaShit ( #JavaScript ): https://www.michaelhorowitz.com/HoverOverLink.php

Masto 3.0 wasn't a pleasant experience when I had a MastoSoc account. In fact, it was painful to use. If PleromaFE wasn't packing so much #JabbaShit that it could choke a pornstar, I'd encourage Mastodon admins to switch software to Pleroma. #JavaScript

@thatbrickster PleromaFE is a giant ball of #JabbaShit / #JavaScript. Under any kind of a constrained system (slow processor or limited RAM), you'll have difficulties. I routinely receive Firefox & Palemoon pop-ups about hung scripts.
-
By the way, to evade #WaPo's anti-private-browsing paywall*, turn off #JS ( #JabbaShit / #JavaScript ).
* Seeing how stupid and gullible newspaper companies' management is, these organizations deserve to fail.

I don't know what Bugsnaq is, and I probably will not ever know. Their site is #JavaScrippled, so unless one allows some completely random site to run #JavaScript ( #JabbaShit ) in your browser, you'll never see it. Too bad, too! Their article on integrating #Tmux and #Vim sounds like it would be very much worth reading. http://status.hackerposse.com/url/19585 ... until you rem…

@vegos A lot of US newspaper sites use JS ( #JabbaShit / #JavaScript ) to obscure their articles, saying "turn off anonymous browsing or log in now". Usually #Dillo works fine (layout is a little funky, but the article content is still readable).
-
@strypey What? Someone is surprised that users are hostile to the idea of mining currency on their computers without their express permission? (Yet another reason not to allow #JabbaShit / #JavaScript to run by default. #NoScript)

I was thinking about playing with #SSB, but every app I see requires #NPM (and presumably #Node.js). I'm not looking with the idea of having a pile of #JabbaShit #JavaScript potentially listening on an external interface.

!SoCal sees 100K+ increase in jobs. https://nu.federati.net/url/251832 [daily bulletin . com] !econusa
.
Site attempts to block 'private' browsing. Just turn off #JavaScript and the problem goes away. #JabbaShit

@sean Not a fan, but it isn't much beyond what contemporary sites' #Jabbashit #JavaScript becomes after minimizing and compression.
