I was going to write an article explaining how #GitHub #Copilot, at least in its current incarnation, is problematic enough that you should avoid using it, but this one covers most of what I wanted to say: https://githubcopilotinvestigation.com/

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22685 [mikestone me] "I Don't Trust GitHub" I'm not big on #GitHub (even before Microsoft bought them), but my impression of DMCA is that GH did not have any say about closing repositories. The claims in the DMCA request may have been garbage, but #Microsoft GitHub doesn't get to choose. They have to disable access to those repos or be liable f…

For those who are unaware, the #RIAA filed a #DMCA takedown request against #YouTube-DL's #GitHub repo. The claim is that ytdl is primarily used for circumventing copyright enforcement mechanisms.

https://linuxreviews.org/Apple%27s_CUPS_Repository_Has_Died_A_Quiet_Death
I don't know where I found this link, but it's important news: #Apple's main #CUPS repository (on #GitHub) has very few commits since the main dev left late last year. There's a new CUPS fork at OpenPrinting.org

Due to an unfixed #GitHub bug, someone was able to use a PR to copy the YTDL repo's contents into the GitHub DMCA repo. https://github.com/github/dmca/tree/416da574
I'm guessing the bug will be fixed within 24 hours.

Mentions #npm and #github, but I can't see any reference in the article (using phone)

Planning to play with #Kallithea https://kallithea-scm.org/ soon. I’m still very much in favor of #Fossil https://fossil-scm.org/home/doc/trunk/www/index.wiki but I’m not rigid about it (the way many #Git and #Github users are). If either Git or #Mercurial ( #Hg ) https://www.mercurial-scm.org/ are appropriate for the situation, I’ll use them.

That was surreal: My !GNU #Emacs just sent a #twofactor authentication code to my mobile when interfacing with #github via #magit.

I was on the #Pump.io #Github site yesterday and found a wiki page about servers. Not the usual Pump servers, but servers that provide services that most federated socnets generate from each instance. For example, RagTag\.io was to provide hashtagging for the network. There were statistics hubs, a firehose, a find-your-friends service, and more. The repositories are still ther…

Someone on SSB said they received a phishing message pretending to come from #GitHub. The link actually went to glt-hub\.com. Just so you're aware.
Also, though I have not seen any sign of it, you can expect COVID-19 to be used by scammers.

@moonman My feelings exactly. I didn't have anything original there ( #Github ) in the first place, but I had patches for others' projects. I removed everything several years ago. Yes, a couple of potential employers have passed on hiring me because my GH account was empty. I just (A) don't want to support centralized facilities like GH or SourceForge any more, when you can hos…

@grote I'm interested in providing polylines for routes in #Transportr, how should I do that? Recent commit messages don't reveal it despite 2.0.5 release saying "polylines for more networks". .]
I've been mapping and updating the OSM data for public transport v2 in Umeå, Sweden at least.
I can't join the conversation over on #GitHub.

@tom79 About a year ago I duplicated #AndStatus code depository in #Gitlab and since that time I'm pushing updates to both #Github and Gitlab. Unfortunately, "Issues" aren't part of the public repository, and so they cannot be duplicated easily. That time I decided that Issues in Gitlab are subpar compared to Githubs, so I stayed with Github for communication wit…
