Or, maybe they can look for good news to cover right now. Ordinarily, the news makes my little town about 100 miles from Los Angeles sound like the district formerly called "South Central" (it is now called "South Los Angeles", because of the reputation the old name acquired). -

Yesterday, the people across the street had a car towed home. Last night, they were working on it, so I heard banging and power tools. They have started working on it again. I'm hoping they get it running acceptably and go to bed (or watch TV or whatever else they do that isn't too loud). -

I'm noticing that the local news media have a lot fewer news items (other than #COVID-19) now that fewer people are out and about to commit or be victimized by crimes. Can we extend the lockdown for another decade or two? -

Virgin Trains is building a high speed rail link between !SoCal and #Las_Vegas, #NV. They plan to end it North of the Cajon Pass. That may be because of problems acquiring rights-of-way there. My 12 year old ( #GD1 ) and 8 year old ( #GD2 ) granddaughters were animated and playful today. I suppose it means they went to bed on time last night. They usually stay up late on Saturday and then are sluggish all day Sunday, which is when I have my weekly #videochat with them and their dad #sonOne. -

#sonOne's $EMPLOYER was purchased by another firm earlier this year. So far, they haven't done any staff cuts, but he's preparing for LAE (life after $EMPLOYER). -

Someone else was wondering when they first became aware of the #COVID-19 outbreak. My memory says December of 2019, but I can't find anything I wrote or posted about it before the 2nd week of January 2020 (when someone tipped me that their sources were saying the outbreak in Wuhan would be a worldwide plague). -

Among other things, real direct messages would enable us to stop pretending that scope limited messages (SLMs) are DMs. SLMs are regular messages, but sent only to a specified list of recipients, which would be useful in recreating something akin to Diaspora's aspects or GPlus's circles. Saw a good-sized puff of black smoke rising from somewhere nearby. My immediate thought was to get closer to confirm that it was a house fire before calling the 9-11 emergency number. Glad I did so.
