@mangeurdenuage I disagree. Among other things, real direct messages would enable us to stop pretending that scope limited messages (SLMs) are DMs.

SLMs are regular messages, but sent only to a specified list of recipients, which would be useful in recreating something akin to Diaspora's aspects or GPlus's circles. They're BAD when users believe they are private DMs, so they send private info such as banking info over fake DMs.

In summary, people want direct messages and therefore software devs will add something called DMs, even if it is only in name. Better to build real DMs into the project from the start.
