@solariiknight, areal vs. linear vs. angular distortion is a standard #tradeoff in #cartography, similarly to #photography trade-off of `ultrawide lenses that preserve straight lines' vs. `fisheye lenses that preserve the shape of people's heads'. !osm -

The current 2D world map distorts real size of countries. Some are much bigger than they are in a 2D map and some much smaller.

At some point I read a great essay about how the US #healthcare #privacy laws were technically identical to the laws on handling of #classified information, but somehow neither anyone charged with implementing nor enforcing #HIPAA understood that, so lots of shit that would never fly in a Defense context happens routinely in medical contexts despite it actually being just as verboten. wish I could find that essay.... -

@chimo, "passwords must start with a letter" probably means "cleartext storage" + either "generating code + not sanitizing" or "using the wrong cmp operator". There have been many cases throughout computing history where "starts with a digit" meant "parses as numeric", for example. -

@chimo for example, SSO sytems with an old #IRIX box somewhere in the mix can't enforce ">8-char passwords" and sometimes enforce "<=8". -

@chimo, I've dealt with systems like that; it often means that they're storing your password in cleartext and(!)/or interconnecting multiple systems that each failing to sanitize their inputs in at least one of those ways. -
