The storm near Joplin is getting bigger and the most active area has partitioned into three areas. First is stronger than the others, and mostly in #KS, with some spillover into #MO and #OK, moving W and especially SW. The other two are smaller and weaker, moving SE.
Watching it because there are three grandkids near this storm.
-
I went to check on the three remaining baby cats (kittens). They seem to be fine. Still afraid to come too near humans.
It was really sad (and gross) to see that their sibling had accidentally hung itself.
-
It is difficult to trust people enough to make them equal to yourself (especially since they could kick & ban you with that power from a room you created yourself), but in a world where people sometimes spam or attempt to shock or otherwise fill the room with content that ruins the room for its official purpose, a public (not invitation-only) room needs moderators at least
-
Dropped out of the matrix://#python:matrix.org room because there was a person spamming disgusting images and the single admin was nowhere to be found. I’ll be willing to rejoin in the future, but I’d like it if the admin adds other admins and moderators, so someone can respond in a reasonable time period.

Back when I watched “The Amazing Three”, “Speed Racer”, “Yuusha Raideen”, I was unaware of any such thing as anime. They were just cartoons.
-
I am just going to admit this out loud. The @SMU live stream of graduation beginning with the theme from "Cowboy Bebop" was amazing.

#NOAA / #NWS issuing severe #t-storm warning for #Riverside and #San_Diego counties. Near #SR79, S of Anza. Storm is nearly stationary. Area affected includes Anza, Aguanga, Palomar Mountain, Warner Springs, Cahuilla Tribal Reservation, Oak Grove, Sage, highway S7, highway SR79.
70MPH wind gusts, nickel sized hail, radar indicated.
-
A number of the tribal reservations in that area had their housing destroyed in a big fire ... residents have been living in old mobile home trailers. The storm could destroy many of those trailers, causing injury or death to occupants.
-
#NOAA / #NWS issuing #t-storm, flash flooding, excessive heat alerts for SE #KS and SW #MO. If you’re in the area, tune to your local news to find out what responses are advised.
-

https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-360-cameras
This is what I was looking for. It sounds like these are also passe.
-
I remember when “3D camera” was a proprietary film-based technology, sold via a multi-level marketing system, which required one to send their film to a particular mail-order processor to make 3D prints. That was in the late 1980s or early 1990s, and it flopped hard. I have not been watching camera technologies for some time, but #3D_cameras made a return (and apparently f…

Randomly looked up two brothers I knew when I was in high school. Their names are more common than I expected ... older brother has hundreds of name-alikes, but none of the ones I found had the right age. I’m sure he’s split from the wife I knew (she was the chase you down the street with a knife type), but I did find one that had a woman with that same first name as a “…

I feel like henceforth referring to spaces on campus, where people congregate against health recommendations, as haunted plague boxes should be a top priority. https://twitter.com/xkcdcomic/status/1294348767810875393

@geniusmusing They have permanent feelings of superiority, so Tim will have to give them something similar but backwards. That way, they can say "you're holding it wrong" when it doesn't work correctly.

I started a rumor that @bthall is buying me a Tesla for my birthday, just because I know it is quite impossible.

I’ve had the #Debian and #Devuan machines off because of the heat, but since I’m reinstalling Kubuntu on the laptop, I decided to go through and see which ones need major updates and run them.
The Debian machine is upgrading to from 9 (Stretch) to 10 (Buster). The Devuan machine is upgrading from 2.x (Ascii) to 3.x (Beowulf). After they finish, I’ll look at the #Fedora and #OpenSuse machines.

#TIL: “Ukraine” is the English transliteration of “Україна”, pronounced oo-CRAY-yee-nah
I just assumed that we pronounced it the same as they did.
Also, there used to be some Ukrainian families (refugees) living nearby in the 1990s. I really enjoyed the sound of their language when they spoke to one another. I have not heard it since then.

@lnxw48a1@nu.federati.net It's definitely not transliteration but adaptation, since the last symbol would be "a" in transliteration.
Adaptation: Kiev, Moscow, St. Petersburg.
Transliteration (contemporary): Kyiv (or Kyyiv, or Kyjiv), Moskva, Sankt-Peterburg.
-
@xrevan86 Oh, thanks for clarifying that.
