Much cooler outside today. Inside still reaching the 90F+ range (within 5 degrees F of outside temperatures).
Hoping the house cools a lot tonight. Last night, it was too hot to sleep until around 04:30.

When I was 18-20, I wanted to ride a bicycle from Santa Monica, #CA, to Orlando, #FL. It never happened.

Managed a lovely 7 mile run today, part of which was through Hoblitzelle Park in Plano. We are very lucky to have this nice early-morning weather in August here in North Texas.

Latest #NOAA / #NHC forecast track has #TropStorm #Marco becoming a hurricane today or tonight, then weakening Monday and being pushed West into #TX on Tuesday or Wednesday. TropStorm #Laura now expected to go across Hispaniola and Cuba, becoming a hurricane overnight Monday-Tuesday and hitting #LA Wednesday night.

Just below 800K deaths so far. #COVID-19. US share is 22%.

@simsa03 Thank you for making sure that comes to mind.
Internally, I try to weigh the numbers by population, but you are correct that most media reports do not do so, and end up being unintentionally deceptive.

@geniusmusing I knew the state was forcing older and less efficient power plants to close, but I did not know they were not replacing that power.
They’re also pushing to close all the nuclear plants, but again, I expected them to replace that power.

With more virtual teaching ahead, this Cleveland educator turned his shed into a classroom Investments in teachers could have been made months ago to facilitate these transformations, but education administrators have limited understanding of education. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2020/08/20/with-more-virtual-teaching-ahead-this-cleveland-educator-turned-his-shed-into-classroom/

Student papers say administrators share blame for virus outbreaks: Dont make us write obituaries Campus reopening policies have often been weak enough that they clearly set up the students to take the final blame. No. Bad policy is makers fault. https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2020/08/21/student-newspapers-coronavirus/

Going to try out #OnionShare ... file-sharing over a #Tor hidden service. After I log into #sonTwo's server and grab some files.
We're having trouble with it, so I'm going to flatten it and then let him rebuild.

Claims that #CA agriculture is water efficient. I call BS. In some parts of the state, you can drive past and see that they're using "flood" irrigation. Which can help replenish groundwater as well as increasing rainfall downwind, but isn't efficient at point of use.

I’m of two minds with regard to military recruiting. I know they seem to focus on low-income minorities and drip promises of job skills. What’s the most likely assignment? Infantry. Tanks. Artillery. Missiles. Where are you going to use that after you get out? On the other hand, despite my vociferous disagreement, #sonOne went into the US Navy, got some useful technical …

Like any salespeople, their messaging is deceptive. That’s why they shouldn’t be able to speak to minors without their parents present (or at least parents’ consent). But at some point, you’re an adult. Just as you can buy the used car that was never driven over 35MPH, you can buy that “we’ll train you and give you experience in something marketable”. My son h…

Looking at the #NOAA / #NHC site. #TropStorm #Marco forms, should pass over part of the #Yucatan, then head across the Gulf toward #TX or #LA. To the east of that, TropStorm #Laura is bigger, but sloppy. Expected to pass near or over #PR, Hispaniola ( #DR and #Haiti), #Cuba, #Caymans, #Bahamas, then enter the Gulf of Mexico before becoming a hurricane http://status.hackerposse.…

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22090 If you haven’t made an emergency evacuation plan yet, it is time to do so now. Ours is outdated, so needs work. But basically, if you’ll need to bring it in an emergency, you should know where it is and be able to grab it quickly. If you’ve got pets or children in your home, or if you’ve got someone with health issues, you shou…

You know why people use short passwords? Because on-screen keyboards stink and it is hard enough to correctly enter an 8-12 character password. If you’re used to 64-character passwords, though, mobile is hard to get right.
