Watching hurricane coverage from Lafayette, LA. I normally watch a station from Baton Rouge, but I think this one is closer to the area of most damage.
I'm not going to watch very long.

Yes, I've been reading a little bit about malaria and the drugs used to treat it (including CQ & HCQ).

I never heard of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Jay_the_Jet_Plane before today. 1998-2005, so really targeted at a younger group than mine ( #Daddy_A, the youngest, was born in 1989 ).
Here's an episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oy4_Rl9_fw ... I suppose they'd have shown two of these 12 and a half minute episodes in one half-hour show.

#Hurricane #Laura’s maximum sustained winds near 150MPH. https://nu.federati.net/url/274382 [www nbcnews com]
They are doing one of those live update feed things, so different stories will appear at the top over the next few hours. (And link could vanish completely at some point in the future.)

I really only know one person in #LA ... a former #Fediverse member (and #HPR contirbutor) who is a professor at one of the state universities.
Unfortunately, he’s really busy, and I don’t really have a channel to ask how things are going.

You can tell a lot about someone's feelings by their pronunciation. For example, I say You-Ess-Pee-Ess for USPS, not Us-Pus. As you might guess, I'm in favor of preserving the Postal Service.

The stand fan in my room stopped working today. Time to replace it.
-
Replacement is on-site and working. It is blowing directly at my bed. Also replaced the window fan with two box fans. Last night was the first time in a while that I had to partially cover myself, because the ~60F wind being pulled inside by the fan was too cool after being in 95F all day.

Morning Glories. By noon or so, these flowers will wither. I did not know this when I planted them.
There is another batch called Convolvulus. So far, I've seen one blue flower. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/274368

My mom mailed a card to one of my brothers (who has lived in the same apartment for at least a decade). It came back as undeliverable.
#USPS screws up a lot, but I still don't want them closed down or sold.

In the Eastern Pacific, Tropical storms have formed: #TropStorm Hernan and TS Iselle. Current forecasts expect the storms to turn westward and dissipate around Sunday/Monday. In the Atlantic / Gulf of Mexico, #Hurricane #Laura is a category 4 storm, expected to bring storm surge up to 20 feet above normally-dry ground. Still expected to reach the #TX / #LA shore this evening. …

"Laura is a large hurricane and users are reminded to not focus on the precise track forecast since wind, storm suge, and rainfall hazards extend far from the center."
"1. Unsurvivable storm surge ..."

I think I saw this on afternoon television way back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPsA-jA24cg
Or most likely I saw part of it and then left to go outside.

Someone reposting the link to article about how #Apple's new privacy rules will affect #Facebook. https://nu.federati.net/url/274378 [arstechnica com]
Their comment is important enough that everyone should be exposed to it: 'And yes, Apple is all about "nobody violates our users' privacy except us!" '

The head of the agency sends out an all-hands message, then half an hour later, they use the agency's emergency alert system to ping everybody _with the same message_.
Wasting my time while they're not paying for it.
