BTS was on the cover of one of the magazines that display at the store checkstands a week or two ago. ( Originally saw this video thanks to a link from @kai )

@mur2501 The better way is to use prepared statements, of course, and thus to avoid inserting anything into an SQL command.

Ever since PSY’s hits “Gagnam Style” and “New Face”, I do occasionally throw “kpop” into YouTube to see what comes up. So far, nothing that I’m bonkers about, but a lot of it is okay.

Seems like a really long time ago that my youngest niece (currently 23) listened to Justin Bieber. After she stopped talking about him, I figured his music career was over. It may be. I haven’t heard anyone mentioning his newer music in years.
Anyway, this is the song I remember LG playing all the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kffacxfA7G4

@fribbledom With how that looks you may as well go with the Windows 10 Update Assistant.

Considering ordering pizza is a sign that you need to eat only celery and lettuce for a few days. That's my story ... for now.

"How it works ... is unclear." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloroquine
Seems to be very common with anti-malarials.

So Google is threatening to take down some Mastodon clients from the Play Store because it is possible to access hate speech. A lot of people seem to think Google does not understand federated networks, but somewhere in the organization, they do. Years ago, they had a few socnet projects, some of which sort of worked with Identica. Then came GPlus, which was initially a non-fed…

@pete you are just going to come in a lurk and not say hi? :P

@musicman @pete I think he posted from his LA account: @pete

didn't realize he had an account other than LA

"One thing I’ve been thinking about lately is the compensation, like the principles of compensation. If I live in San Francisco, and I move to Taos, New Mexico, where houses cost a third as much, should I get paid less? I can make the argument strongly both ways. But companies are acting like monopsonists, which is like a monopoly except you’re the only buyer instead of the…

Some companies are very explicit about allowing people to work anywhere and paying them the same. As for the lunch conversations, these conversations happen in slack (which is lame, but that's what we use). Remote-first companies and teams are better about this, but we would have plenty of hipchat (remember them?) conversations at Nagios. The lunch room conversations feed the g…

Amazon's Halo wristband: the fitness tracker that listens to your mood Amazon | The Guardianhttps://nu.federati.net/url/274432 >Amazon is bringing out its first fitness tracker, a wristband called the Halo, which will eavesdrop on its owner to assess if they are happy or sad based on their tone of voice. > >A pair of always-on microphones will listen to users, trying to assess …

@geniusmusing OMG! This will probably be the #1 product this holiday season.
It's a horrible idea, but that's what makes things popular. Admittedly listening in on your speech. Stee-rike! Unstated, but likely sends those recordings to HQ. Strike two! Requests nude selfies. You're out! ... and out of the game!
-
without the nude selfie, how is it supposed to access your fitness????????

I think we kind of already knew this but now we have data. The coronavirus is most deadly if you are older and male — new data reveal the riskshttps://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02483-2 >For every 1,000 people infected with the coronavirus who are under the age of 50, almost none will die. For people in their fifties and early sixties, about five will die — more men…

@roytam @samir @vegos ActivityPub support is being added to !loadaverage
-
@roytam The fix didn't hold up. There's quite an unpleasant bug regarding the ActivityPub plug-in, @diogo and I are looking into solutions.
-
@roytam O.K., I think it's fixed now.
-
@roytam The fix involved some changes to how IDs (URIs) are stored and sent.
I guess Pleroma didn't recognise that it already has these posts just with different IDs.
I guess good that this was done fairly early on…

The guardians of public health are allowing Trump to undermine and humiliate them I knew that this Presidency would dismantle scientific agencies over 4 years. It started with climate and environment. It ends with the destruction of human health. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-guardians-of-public-health-are-allowing-trump-to-undermine-and-humiliate-them/2020/08/27/fd03fc56-e881-11ea-970a-64c73a1c2392_story.html

Six feet may not be enough to protect against coronavirus, experts warn Real-time science policy is an evolving set of guidelines that adapt to new information. To many, this can seem like science doesnt know when its really science knows more. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/08/27/coronavirus-social-distancing-6-feet/

#Gitpod cloud IDE now open source https://thenewstack.io/gitpod-open-sources-a-holistic-ide/
As we continue to contract the family's online footprint, I don't have "cloud" capacity to try this, but I probably would not have done so anyway. I like #Netbeans for those moments when I feel "I need an IDE" ... I also have #Eclipse, but there's no "like" about that slow and bloated program.

And @corbin Says his "raccoon eyes" appearance isn't because of lack of sleep. https://toot.cafe/@corbin/104765048302473352
I did have a friend many years ago who got that (and diarrhea) whenever he consumed dairy. Naturally, sour cream and cheese were his favorite foods.

That's interesting. So far, more than one of the anti-malaria drugs I've read about (on #Wikipedia ... I'm not at the level yet where I could read a study abstract and come away with any kind of high-level overview or feeling of understanding) have a statement to the effect "we don't really know how or why this works". Tonight's reading was http://status.hackerposse.com/url/221…
