So Google is threatening to take down some Mastodon clients from the Play Store because it is possible to access hate speech.
A lot of people seem to think Google does not understand federated networks, but somewhere in the organization, they do. Years ago, they had a few socnet projects, some of which sort of worked with Identica. Then came GPlus, which was initially a non-federated clone of Diaspora.
They don't have the guts to impose these requirements on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, because the size of the sites' userbases would lead to widespread defection from GPlay.
