Some lovely recordings of performances in which my sister has participated! She is the # bassoonist circled in green in the image below. She plays a bunch of instruments, and is very active on Instagram both about music and teaching (and cats). https:// youtu.be/qkLGKuUAe3w?si=ZjPyqv _Pgg7CIsZ0 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/176340d17417708b67d3400c85384c7e0f886d91af64890488e1624451ef9e52/view

From jeffjarvis@mastodon.social on Mastodon: Some personal news: I'm moving on from CUNY's Newmark J-school, officially retiring (but not really) at the end of the term. I am proud of so much accomplished there, which I recount with much thanks here: https:// medium.com/whither-news/moving -on-4eecb1c76ce3

This day did not go as intended. Things that needed to get done did not, but things that should be done did take their place. Also, I am now sick with a cold. Thanks, travel. :-)

I am on shift again for the # HALO experiment. This means monitoring the data-taking system twice a day, ensuring hardware is running, and verifying the data integrity. It’s been a pretty nominal shift. There were a bunch of “coincidence” neutron bursts (random coincidences in time). No muon spallation events (where one of the two muons per day that pass through HAL…

Neat video of the # meteor seen yesterday in parts of eastern North America. Since # xitter does not have a useful API or federation capability, I grabbed this video from the # CapitolWeatherGang account using iOS screen capture to demonstrate the folly of walled gardens. No matter how high the wall, there is always a taller ladder. “Vibrant fireball streaks across Mid-…

Jet-lagged for sure, but what a wonderful time in # Vienna last week! I am working on my personal summaries of the conference, so watch https:// steve.cooleysekula.net/blog for posts over the next week. They will be geared toward a # physics audience, but if anyone sees anything that they are # curious about, message me here! https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/4a9af7d058501338dee63b832fc36ab46cb55f6e2c40c84510fb17be87a20db6/view

A view from the plane as we departed # Vienna this morning. I am getting my muscle memory back when it comes to this intercontinental travelling. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/2a5b82da1a1911de0b96bb094155a909030708343e4da9193a38be76f29a4696/view

Had a pretty uneventful flight from # Frankfurt to # Vienna . Waiting for my final connection to # Sudbury . Pretty easy trip overall. Did some coding on the plane, watched # DunePartOne , napped... and met some nice folks from Owen Sound!
