A little humility about your place in life goes a long way. I wouldn't be where I am without the support of great friends and excellent readers who support my work and support me personally. What bothers me the most about a lot of creators is they take those people for granted. -

@purplehippo The thing about upperclassmen, and you can tell the ones that came from that upbringing, getting one nice thing is never enough. Meanwhile @halani basically has argued with me for hours to accept a gift of a ship in a game before :P -

@purplehippo The last time John Bain got a video card free, the card was worth twice the value of my entire computer. -

@purplehippo It's the media cycle really. Every time new media formats/outlets come around they position themselves as doing things better than the old guard, but they're almost always just as bad as the old guard. It's why the cycle keeps repeating. -

(And let's not even get on about someone like TotalBiscuit or Jim Sterling, who cry poverty while making more in a month than I do in a fucking year.) -

No developer has to provide a product free for review. If I can afford to buy my games when I'm well below the poverty line, the sites with several hundred dollar patreons can. They just don't want to.
So much of this honestly is that these people want to have it both ways. -

@purplehippo Honestly? I couldnt speak to NG in particular, but a lot of them do, they just don't care. They know they can weaponize their audience against a developer, like what Jim Sterling has done countless times now. They don't respect the contracts they sign and the only reason developers put up with it is they need the exposure. -

@purplehippo This is kind of why I prefer to use paid copies or gift copies from readers rather than review copies from developers. The only time I'll use a review copy is if it basically comes with no strings attached, excepting perhaps a reasonable "do not publish before" date. -

@purplehippo It'd dishonest to suggest what is essentially a contract dispute, is actually a matter of free speech, but I've noticed when I look into many of these review censorship claims they come down to that kind of thing. They got copies under shit terms and used the copy anyways.
If you don't agree with review copy terms, don't use the review copy. -

@purplehippo They received a review copy under terms that stipulated they did and didn't do certain things in their review. Personally, I would never have accepted those terms because fuck that shit. But they did. And then they broke them. And then their video got pulled.
Cause and effect. -

Uh, NicheGamer, removing monetization from your videos isn't censorship. -

@verius This is kind of why I try to do as much as I can on Nightly and only diverge dev branches for long-term projects. -

@verius "fun" indeed - but at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been then! -

@verius I've had enough trouble with entirely asanine changes in git with postActiv to feel this pain, believe me. Sounds like you've been having "fun" -

@verius I was being cheeky, it was morning when you posted that, in my time zone :) Hopefully you can escape the madness relatively unscathed. -

I would pretty much use the Odyssey bridge on like everything that I didn't want a special bridge on, if you could use it on ships that aren't an Odyssey -
