@gameragodzilla @katiekats Akyryod wanted to appear in his previous role on that film. You know, like pass the torch on to the new generation sort of thing, which would have been neat IMO. But they wouldn't let him. -

@gameragodzilla @katiekats JJ Abrams doesn't understand how to do this kind of film and it's obvious. He makes great hollywood blockbuster brainless action flicks, and honestly? For that genre, he's like that genres michelangelo or some shit, he does do that kind of thing very well, but he's not suited to Star Wars AT ALL. -

@gameragodzilla @katiekats They expected a 10/10 movie and got a movie so bad that it can only be expressed in a part of a mathematical equation that spans several dimensions of existence. -

@purplehippo @katiekats @gameragodzilla Honestly, none of us can know until it comes out, but what they've given us to speculate with hasn't been promising. I'll probably see it, because it'll be my stepdads excuse for family time, but whether I'll enjoy it or not, well, we'll see. -

@kuro I find it actually kind of liberating to be able to maturely debate and discuss different and sometimes even opposing viewpoints to mine without it descending into shrieking histrionics. -

@takeshitakenji @moonman I am not able to replicate this problem myself so I'm trying to get as much data as I can to try to figure it out sorry if I'm coming across as demanding or unhelpful. -

@gameragodzilla @katiekats Trek has always had a strong focus on high-minded character drama using intelligent science fiction tropes as the framing device. And, well, it's JJ Abrams. -

@gameragodzilla @katiekats We don't talk about that.
But honestly? I'd watch that before TFA. Sure, it's godawful, but well like you say with BF, its at least HILARIOUSLY godawful. Its the kind of cringey bad you can laugh at.
That's more amusing than I found TFA -

@gameragodzilla @katiekats Exactly. it's just more obvious with Trek because Trek has a very strong singular identity, whereas Star Wars doesn't. -

@katiekats @gameragodzilla TFA is the first Star Wars film that I genuinely didn't like. And I'm including those made for TV CGI ones from earlier and Clone Wars TV series. It isn't awful, but it's soulless, it has no creative spark, and it shows. Going through the motions so Disney can make money. -

@gameragodzilla Basically, it was the one that people felt was worse, because they actually had expectations for it, and it fell short, whereas peoples expectations were basically zero for TFA.
Expecting a 7/10 8/10 and getting a 6/10 film is a -1, -2 difference. Expecting a 0/10 film and getting 5/10 is a +5 difference. Hence favourable reactions. Even though 5>6 last I checked lol. -

@gameragodzilla That's the moment when the proverbial mask fell away and any pretense to not being authoritarian flew to the wind. -

@gameragodzilla I think a lot of ended up positive on it just because our expectations were so low, you know? In retrospect when you look at it with those expectations now not part of the equations, its easy to see that it wasn't all that great, it was just better than "not complete shit." -

@takeshitakenji GS/PA isn't doing much with it at all though, so I don't know what optimizations you can make on our end, though I will run through things with a profiler and take a look. The problem becomes TCP has a given overhead for every connection even if I get the php execution time down to fractions of a microseconds, doubly so if you're needing DNS lookups.… -

@knuthollund @sklaing One thing I've liked about GNU social, a lot actually, is I can expose myself to a lot of viewpoints and life experiences that you just don't hear tell of through more "curated" (read: censored and manipulated) social media like Twitter and Facebook. I'd never really been able to talk to someone that actually represented many of these viewpoin… -

Daisy Ridley couldn't act to save her life if TFA is any indication. She was carried by much stronger actors, such as the guy who played our favourite traitor.
That whole move is really a 5/10 at best, it's watchable and not really awful, but doesn't really serve any purpose but to cash in and make disney money and dear god it shows. -

@gameragodzilla Oh yeah that's great. Literally slut shaming the future First Lady in the name of progressivism. No hypocrisy or double standards there! And that's what it comes down to I think. I would say feminism itself is very libertarian. Radical-feminsm, progressivism, progressive feminism, whatever you want to call it, is very authoritarianism. I … -

@sklaing @knuthollund http://status.hackerposse.com/url/12600 has a lot of channers and GamerGate types on it. This isn't neccesarialy a bad thing, but there is definitely a prevaling groupthink in places. I'm given to thinking this is inevitable a part of any centralized social media though. GS seems to get away from it to *some* degree with federation, but suf…
