@gameragodzilla @verius Well, I think the seed of truth to this fear is the Democrats know their super PAC has completely and utterly lost power. They lost the house, they lost congress, and they lost the White House. Of course, if they were reasonable, this would lead to some soul-searching as to how they could change that. But then again, if they were reasonab… -

@gameragodzilla @verius Paying two sets of taxes is wunderbar, but I pay those taxes in return for being afforded two sets of securities, so, yknow. -

@gameragodzilla @verius Trump is basically doing the latter. The bit about him deporting legal citizens is just histronics, but I don't think we disagree about that. Even if he did intend to deport legal citizens, he doesn't have that kind of executive power (and thank the powers that be for that.) -

@gameragodzilla @verius It's actually rather difficult for me to maintain the dual citizenship having lived abroad for so long ago but I do so because I care for both countries, and don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fuss. But I go through the proper legal processes because I value the civil liberties and rights I'm afforded by both. Ultimately what illegal immigr… -

@verius @gameragodzilla Lowering the minimum wage due to illegal immigration is basically analogous to revoking firearms from law-abiding citizens with collections because someone was an idiot and harmed themselves or others with it. The circumstance you're trying to prevent doing so likely isn't, while law-abiding citizens are the ones affected. -

@gameragodzilla @verius There is no such thing as "fair market value" - there are many instances of unfair market value however. There is only "this the time it takes a person of adequete skill to do this and the wage that it takes to support the living needs of a person during that time of work." -

@verius That's a very tricky proposition sometimes though, because for instance, could I as a woman whose weight is currently in the two digits in pounds be expected to get in a fistfight with a 200+ pound guy? Our law recognizes and considers this, but not all countries that have this kind of law do. -

@verius @gameragodzilla I agree. And this is exactly why back home in Britian the illegal immigrants are a problem: the government hits up the legitimate businesses and ignores the ones employing illegal immigrants. If it was the other way around illegal immigration would be significantly curtailed. The appeal of illegal workers to businesses is after all, the … -

@purplehippo @verius Use of force law in the United States generally states that it is acceptable to use force to defend your place of business. California and New York are the two states that are the exception to this. -

@gameragodzilla There is no denying that according to FBI statistics a lot of violent crime in the US is perpetrated by illegal immigrants, however, and that is when it becomes a problem. -

@gameragodzilla Honestly, in most countries, even the most xenophobic ones such as Japan, illegal immigrants are generally begrudgingly tolerated as long as you assimilate well and cause no trouble. -

@verius In Canada you are allowed to use "all reasonable means to restrain, stop, or escape" your assailaint as a private citizen. The police actually have many more legal restrictions about what they are and are not allowed to do, because someone with a knife, handgun, or improvised weapon, is going to do a whole lot less damage than a policeman armed with a high-powered automatic rifle. -

@nerthos One of Canada's saner laws pretty much states that you lose any special protections of law when you are in the act of commiting an indictable offense. There's still a very minimal standard applied to even criminals though, because some things just shouldn't be done to anyone period. -

@verius Which, apparently is an unreasonable and illegal position for which the ACLU hates him. I should think lawyers of all people should know the rule of law only protects citizens and those afforded guest status. This is the same most everywheres you go that isnt the EU (the EU is a bit of a complicated case with its free travel laws) -
