Every person whom enters a country illegally makes it more difficult for those immigrants who wish to enter legally (like my family was, when I was a kid) all the more difficult.
-
@gameragodzilla Honestly, in most countries, even the most xenophobic ones such as Japan, illegal immigrants are generally begrudgingly tolerated as long as you assimilate well and cause no trouble.
-
@gameragodzilla There is no denying that according to FBI statistics a lot of violent crime in the US is perpetrated by illegal immigrants, however, and that is when it becomes a problem.
-
@verius @gameragodzilla I agree. And this is exactly why back home in Britian the illegal immigrants are a problem: the government hits up the legitimate businesses and ignores the ones employing illegal immigrants. If it was the other way around illegal immigration would be significantly curtailed. The appeal of illegal workers to businesses is after all, the …

@gameragodzilla @verius There is no such thing as "fair market value" - there are many instances of unfair market value however. There is only "this the time it takes a person of adequete skill to do this and the wage that it takes to support the living needs of a person during that time of work."
-
@verius @gameragodzilla Lowering the minimum wage due to illegal immigration is basically analogous to revoking firearms from law-abiding citizens with collections because someone was an idiot and harmed themselves or others with it. The circumstance you're trying to prevent doing so likely isn't, while law-abiding citizens are the ones affected.

@gameragodzilla @verius It's actually rather difficult for me to maintain the dual citizenship having lived abroad for so long ago but I do so because I care for both countries, and don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fuss. But I go through the proper legal processes because I value the civil liberties and rights I'm afforded by both. Ultimately what illegal immigr…

@gameragodzilla @verius Trump is basically doing the latter. The bit about him deporting legal citizens is just histronics, but I don't think we disagree about that. Even if he did intend to deport legal citizens, he doesn't have that kind of executive power (and thank the powers that be for that.)

@gameragodzilla @verius Paying two sets of taxes is wunderbar, but I pay those taxes in return for being afforded two sets of securities, so, yknow.
-
@gameragodzilla @verius Well, I think the seed of truth to this fear is the Democrats know their super PAC has completely and utterly lost power. They lost the house, they lost congress, and they lost the White House. Of course, if they were reasonable, this would lead to some soul-searching as to how they could change that. But then again, if they were reasonab…

@gameragodzilla @verius Honestly, I don't care about border controls so much as I care about them having the same responsibilities as us. If they paid the same taxes and had the same responsibilities, I wouldn't care how they got here. But most of them even when offered the opprotunity to naturalize and become citizens (one of the things Cameron offered illegals …

@gameragodzilla @verius It's really telling to me that even with how obviously unpleasant a character Trump is, and holding a tremendously stacked deck in their hand, they still lost the election.
I mean lets face it: Trump didn't so much win the election, as Clinton lost it.

@gameragodzilla @maiyannah In the Bush era I read something of Democrats snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Still rings true today.
-
@verius @gameragodzilla Very apt indeed.
-
@gameragodzilla @verius Pretty sure even Trump was surprised.
-
@verius @gameragodzilla I don't really neatly fit into any label because I have a series of political views informed by greatly varying personal experiences rather than just ideology. As Voltaire once said, ideologies rarely survive contact with reality.
-
@gameragodzilla @verius I do have principles, but they are not a hardline single point upon which I stand, but rather a system of held beliefs that has been formed over a lifetime. Which is to say, they are a thing which has grown and become nuanced over time with a variety of different data points and experiences. If there's anything that informs modern activism…
