@verius Er, a proper bind setup would resolve this handily, with none of the memory leaks :) -

@verius @takeshitakenji Well, prior to taking ncsd down just now, I had 528MB free of 8GB allocated to that VM. Now, I have 6.08 GB free. Talk about a memory hog. -

What exactly is the point of caching user credentials anyways? Is the database being hit that often on a normal machine? Hell a webserver gets a lot more traction that way than most given things like FTP and it still is a very low use rate. Doesn't seem worth the tradeoff. -

@takeshitakenji Just web browsers, usually, and things made by Oracle.
I wonder if this was written by Oracle. -

I'd known it has leaks - it has for a while - so I was restarting it on the hourly crontab. But even after just 50min of operation it was easily eating up 2-4GB of RAM
Probably just going to disable it. -

1.5GB after 10 minutes of operation is ridiculous. -

ncsd in particular seems to leak memory in large amounts and rather rapidly. -

Getting a little annoyed at the VM the main site is on, I need to clean it up. -

Going to have to re-evaluate the backup process I use. Took 4h today and slowed down everything while it was going. Might consider breaking down backups of different components and spreading them out across quieter periods. -

@bob Well, LibreBoot would have to have some progress for anything defeating it to be a problem so it's not in any danger. -

@bob Coreboot's got plenty of stuff going on, comparatively, though I do wish they weren't so reliant on blobs. -

If I knew it was going to expire soon, the shit disturber in me would have totally scooped up identi.ca and put a vintage statusNet version on it. -

A part of me wants to stand up a public pump.io instance kind of just to preserve it, at this point. -

We must also remember that not every developer (and indeed not most developers) are free software advocates or activists, and those kind of midway licenses are an appealing compromise for moderates. -

@eibhear Yes, and this is one of my big problems with the situation in Canada. This mandated membership violates my and my fellow citizens' individual liberties. -

Non-commercial is a bit of a touchy issue, because it does restrict freedoms, but not in a way I find personally objectionable myself, and I know that there are many that feel the same. Moreover, there are also free software advocates whom feel that charging for free software is morally-repugnant, so you should not be allowed to do so, which while I do not personal…
