@archaeme @ronflaix Basically, GNU social and its predecessor StatusNet, had certain limitations that the original creator of both was unhappy with, so they went back to the drawing board, and made pumpio Unfortunately, while StatusNet and thus GNU social that it evolved into had for some time not insignificant financial backing, pumpio never got that kind of moneta… -

@sim A community that is healthy looks after itself. I think the way the community as a whole dealt with this is pretty telling, in a positive way. We can't help but have bad actors sometimes, but when they are responded to by the community coming together, that's a good sign. -

@sim Many of these people don't WANT to grow. They are happy with their current situation because it is validating and cathartic, and do not want have to deal with a greater world outside of this that is not validating to that self image. They want the validation without any effort taken to receive it. -

@verius As a starting actual project, beyond fixing images, I wonder how hard implementing spoilering for the #nsfw tag would be. -

@verius @sim A lot of them tend to thing nothing of themselves. They're worth nothing and they hate the people they see as better as themselves, so they lash out at them. In my experience. What varies is the usually-quite-elaborate rationalization for why lashing out at those people is OK. -

HLA is getting so much traffic on the main site and I haven't even released a review in a bit heh, we must have gotten referenced in someone's marketing materials again.
Going to be upgrading to a stronger dedicated server next month, reinvesting the few subs more we've gotten lately into hardware, so that should help. -

@sim Sometimes the strength with which these individuals dehumanise people surprises even me, and I used to have to deal with evaluating serial murderers. -

@sim Context is important to try to discern, because somethings very "harsh" seeming things aren't meant maliciously, and somethings very "nice" seeming things can be intentionally manipulative or vindictive. The psych training probably gives me a leg up in identifying that, though I will admit I've run into problems before where behaviour that because of that trai… -

@purplehippo I don't mind paying that much for a complete product if its a good game but not for Early Access. -

@sim There's a seperate admin hat account I maintain for when I need to deal officially with people I don't want to deal with normally on a personal level. Most instance admins do this. Basically, it comes down to "don't be a dick" when it comes to the behavioural stuff. I could come up with elaborate rules describing the scenarios as to what that entails, but r… -

@sim @robloxwarhol Generally, unless someone goes after myself, or a user on my instance, I'm generally a live and let live sort of person. -

@sim Opinions can be a difficult thing here, because ultimately what matters is preventing disruption to the site, and opinions can indeed be disruptive. My rule of thumb here, so to speak, is how those opinions are being discussed. Someone that goes after someone and is unpleasant ("delete your account!" is basically the lefts "lol kill yourself") and isn't addi… -

@verius Looking it up on FontSquirrel, looks like Roboto is Apache Licensed, which is an odd choice for a font, but represents no licensing issue for us. If we do need to include the font we should perhaps be clear about that though.
