   @cathal The normal method of discovery is just to request nearby SSIDs, giving away the/a MAC address. No SSIDs.
   I guess the reason Google and Apple do this could be if it's for reason faster or maybe they want to know about networks which don't broadcast their SSID too. (if they store your acquired GPS position tigether with successfully authenticated base stations for example).

   Oh come on, he's just a poster boy now. Any more idolizing and he'll stop existing as a real person altogether and only show up on proprietary Google Hangouts as he always does.     @ghostdancer @gomerx Sometimes it's just not worth taking the time to educate some people. We got a new word for this in Swedish recently btw, describing these kinds of lost hopes, that means essentially "fact resistent".

    @zoowar I have a hard time thinking that the default behaviour is to brick after 10 attempts. That would mean I can DoS every iPhone I get hold of temporarily, assuming there's no massive incremental delay in entering the code.
