I really want just a networked file system. Now that I've had a little time to see them in action, I'm not a fan of the installable services on the #NAS. For example, If I upload a photo of #GS3 (to "/photo" AKA the photos folder) I don't necessarily want to share it with everyone in the house. I should have to intentionally select "share", otherwise, it should be handled in a more private-ish manner. I think #Synology made some bad decisions.

I was seriously thinking the #Synology #NAS's weird permissions settings and the collection of client apps were too much hassle for a limited benefit. But being able to play the same song on every device I own when I'm in reach of the home #Wi-Fi is a powerful attractant.
Now that it is working again, let's see how long it takes them to fill 7TiB of space.

Suddenly remembered that I was reinitializing the family #NAS ( #Synology DS416j ) before I left #SoCal for #Sacramento. They haven't been using it for 7 months (6 months while I was in #Sac, almost a month since I returned).
