Yeah. I don’t know what’s with everybody going to FB. But I wasn’t surprised at all, I expected as much years ago. They’ll go back to their websites sooner or later, they don’t have a choice. Most of them are bandwagon jumpers, not early adopters.
-
Yup. They might as well pack up their sites and just go straight to FB, Twitter, Tumblr, et al. /bad marketing for them IMO. Imagine if their SNs were still up, that would mean more jobs in the FS industry right?
-
yeah too bad. Well, there will be one springing up soon.
-
So now, instead of these networks embracing StatusNet, etc. they ended up embracing Twitter because the hosts they tried before Twitter eventually went down. The question will always be: how reliable is the service? How long will it stay? What’s the financial status of its admin(s)?
-
Yep, a couple actually. When the others was forgotten by their admins, a couple of new ones showed up. But eventually forgotten still. What was unfortunate was some of them got support from news networks before they jumped to Twitter.

I know that guy pretty well, I’ll push him to make some dents so that we’ll have someone from Asia in the list. cc @parlementum @jcsesecuneta

If I remember correctly there was one created for the !Philippines a few years ago, but it was just swamped with spam, am I right @jcsesecuneta ?
-
@redbaptist if you build it, they will come.

Cool! Thanks ♻ @vinzv I cleaned up the servers !statusnet wiki page. Feel free to add missing servers: http://2tu.us/5o6h !feds

thanks erkan for all that info! i'm counting time, money, interest as resources and they are scarce.knowledge-wise i think i could.
-
but considering energy bill longterm more money probably than getting a cheap vps somewhere
-
start VM + pagekite + you can bind your local services (e.g. #statusnet) to the web, though pagekite only trial :-(
-
with "can't set up" you are referring to? e.g. required knowledge or other resource limitations? e.g. you may give #pagekite a try
-
also think about this: when you switch to a server, read now already about #export options, in case you want to switch later elsewhere
-
not sure if others read your request and why they did not send you a ping yet, just explaining my reasons
-
the #visibility or #licence (as you mention in other dent) can be "fixed", e.g. by posting to certain groups only I think, needs research
