The #Matrix (at least matrix.org) bridge to #Freenode #IRC just went down again. That's most of what I use Matrix for, so that's not good.
-
#Matrix is a lot less interesting without the #IRC bridge.
-
Hmm. It seems the #Matrix bridge to #Freenode #IRC is still down after the Freenode server reconfig yesterday.
-
The #python room on #Freenode_IRC is too busy. There are also such rooms on #OFTC_IRC and #Matrix (the one I know about is on matrix.org), but they are practically ghost towns.

#Matrix room specification. I think it was @clacke@libranet.de that was talking about this some time back

Personally, I never liked #IRC, so I quickly stopped using it back in the late #1990s. Sometime in the 2000s or 2010s, I started to use #SILC (through their CLI client based on the "irssi" IRC client), and only through SILC did I learn to tolerate IRC. Today, I almost always use IRC through bridges to #Matrix or #XMPP MUCs. And even though I usually have multiple terminal windows …

@moonman I guess the #Matrix version of the #10grans bot still exists. It still appears on the user list of some rooms I'm in.
-
@moonman Since #Matrix needs to make some pretty deep changes anyway, they could roll them all into one big breaking change.

Some of #Riot’s problems are baked into #Matrix as a whole. For example, addressing. Let’s say I set up #Synapse at matrix\.federati\.net. The “#members” room would be at #members:matrix.federati.net, correct? And my account would be @lnxw48a1:matrix.federati.net? I’m not even sure. Do their URLs start with “matrix:”? Or maybe “matrix://“? And that’s the pr…

There's been no traffic in those #matrix rooms for some time.

@paulfree14 @bobjonkman #matrix and !xmpp users can also join chats that are bridged into the #irc room.

Hi @mxuribe@uribe.cafe
I've noticed you've created a #matrix channel for #gnusocial. Great idea. Was just on the way doing the same and saw you did already. :-)
To make other supportes of gnusocial aware of new stuff here some groups you can use to right it in. : !gnusocial !fediverse
Also there's a not very active irc on freenode. I've left a notice there.

There's a #gnusocial channel on #matrix existing since some days. Maybe some like to join.

Okay, so #Matrix: positives are that the #Riot client has a beauteous interface; http://status.hackerposse.com/url/13727's bridge to #Freenode offers ever-growing scrollback in #IRC rooms; possible to !selfhost a matrix server. Minuses: I haven't yet found a http://status.hackerposse.com/url/13728 bridge to #XMPP (which would greatly enhance its value to me); no concept of indi…

@aqeel As I understand it, @bob is trying to get Synapse (the primary #Matrix homeserver project) working, including bridging to #XMPP. Not quite the same as using the Riot client with a matrix\.org account.

@notnavigium I'm using #Matrix (through the #Riot / #Vector Android client) now, but past history tells me the protocol will eventually need community control or official standards or both. CC: @clacke @grmpyoldman

@grmpyoldman multi-hop bridging could become messy. With the #XMPP - #IRC bridges I've seen, every MUC to room connection requires someone has to set up a separate #bot. #Matrix seems to do many to many without individual room bots. (Improving MUC to room interface would be a great GSOC project; maybe resulting product could be a major XEP.)
-
@grmpyoldman @notnavigium AFAIK, #Matrix's protocol is not an open standard, at least not yet.
