Yeah, it takes a while before completely !FLOSS drivers &c. can be reverse-engineered. The #Gluglug is for people who value freedom over power :)

Another post on my blog, about how to automatically encrypt messages to yourself when using GnuPG: http://blog.sergiodj.net/post/2014-06-08-gnupg-encrypt-to-self/ !lpbrsp !fediverse !fs !privacy !gnu !surveillance !crypto

#TrueCrypt publishes the algorithms and source code, and allows re-distribution, but has just enough restrictions so that it isn't !FreeSoftware. According to http://truecrypt.ch/ the new code will be a fork, and development will be far more open and transparent. I hope the new code will not be encumbered with the same restrictions, so that it can be truly !FreeSoftware.

I'll bet they're the same coworkers who take no part in the community of programmers / developers / !FreeSoftware advocates / LUGs, or similar. I never understood how these people can maintain or refine their skills when they shut off their interest unless it's $EMPLOYER mandated.

I want to maximize freedom with usability. No point in having !freesoftware you can't use. So there's this pesky Broadcom WiFi radio in my laptop...

!ownCloud does have groups. But in addition to the !FreeSoftware version at http://owncloud.org there's an Enterprise version at http://owncloud.com — I haven't tried that one, and don't know what the difference is, or if the Enterprise version is FAIF. But you should try that to see if it's a better fit.

@eric My ProBook is only two years old, but I was dualbooting with Win7 (which I don't use much any more and recently converted to a .VHD with "Disk2VHD" from http://ur1.ca/4irvh ); it had two LUKS encrypted partitions spanned together with LVM (one of which wouldn't mount until AFTER the OS was loaded, making it difficult to boot when the OS was hosted on it); and several smaller …

For some people, !FreeSoftware is like a drug. They go from proprietary apps to !FS apps on a proprietary OS, then try !GNU / !Linux on a USB drive for a while, then install a popular GNU/Linux distro, and as they learn they can do MORE with !FS, not less, they eventually switch to distros that respect their freedom more.

@sergiodj That's what I'm counting on! #gNewSense #IceWeasel !FreeSoftware

Seems like a good time to switch to a !FreeSoftware OS, so I can avoid the #DRM encumbered !Firefox

Tried #gNewSense in a VM last night. It has Gnome2! My old friend! I'll be wiping my drive and installing later tonight. !fs

The Reg misquotes the authors in a pull quote: "TV builders have released source code that makes developing malware a little easier". The authors said "applications", not "malware". Of course — !FreeSoftware makes everything easier, including finding malware and including building better security. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/05/10/smarttv_bugging/

@nds I haven’t seen that. . . I disagree with @rms stance on licensing b/c I think !FreeCulture is at least as important as !fs

But !Linux !Mint has much non- !freesoftware, so I'm looking forward to installing the new !Trisquel for myself

I will be giving a talk on Tuesday at 5p entitled, "Trust is Key: Integrating PGP into your Free Software development workflow," with a keysigning party to follow. This event is open to the public, so anyone in the greater Ithaca, NY, area can attend. More information can be found at <http://ur1.ca/h4pdo>. (This was originally planned for a week ago, but due to room reservat…

@sjvn also writes: Canonical will release the Ubuntu One code as open-source software so they can create their open-source file syncing platforms. http://www.zdnet.com/canonical-closes-down-ubuntu-one-cloud-file-services-7000027991/ » Keeping the UbuntuOne server code proprietary was one of the things that lost !Ubuntu marketshare amongst the hardcore !FreeSoftware crowd.
