I'm running !Linux !Mint 16 (Petra), but really want to install #LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). But I'd like something that's more !FS, so then I think, why not just install !Debian Testing (Jessie)? But if I'm concerned about !FS, then why not just install !Trisquel? #AnalysisParalysis

In computer !security "Trust" means "give permission to harm me". So, to rephrase, why should I give your Javascript permission to harm me? The !FS license has nothing to do with it.
-
@tuttle But how do I know to trust your Javascript? !FreeSoftware tools can create malware just as easily as non-free tools

I organized a Video Chat for !Ubuntuca on #Google Hangouts because that's what !Ubuntu people said they were using. It was very successful (lots of people participating) but it didn't feel right to me because it wasn't !FreeSoftware. I'll do it one more time, but after that I'll let someone else organize because I want to be !GoogleFree

♻ @luke: UK government plans switch from Microsoft Office to open source http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jan/29/uk-government-plans-switch-to-open-source-from-microsoft-office-suite - great news! » More than Open Source, I hope they choose !OpenData and !FreeSoftware

Actually, I'm not sure if the Gluglug qualifies as !OpenHardware; after all, it's a refurbised Lenovo X60, so even though the BIOS and operating system are !FreeSoftware, the rest of the hardware is probably still encumbred with patents and trademarks and other restrictions

Looks like Samsung is on my #NeverBuyFromThem list: Samsung blocks 3rd-party accessories with #DRM http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/01/22/samsung-appears-to-have-started-blocking-third-party-accessories-starting-with-kitkat-on-the-note-3-but-there-is-a-root-solution/ I won't buy from them, not because they're blocking 3rd party accessories, but because they've encumbered the phone with #DRM in the first place. !FreeSoftware, !OpenHardware

Good to know #ARR isn't @EFF policy. I suppose it's a bit unrealistic of me to expect @EFF to use !FreeSoftware for their mailout since there are lots of other organizations involved. But there's no indication that the e-mail signup uses a non-FAIF mailing provider, and since the site is #Javascrippled the Privacy Policy link just goes back to the home page (on a Javascript-encumbe…

That reminded me: Spouse's Sansa Fuze+ stopped working a few weeks after I installed Rockbox. Tried to re-install boot loader, #fail. Went to #rockbox irc channel, got some terrific personalized support from the Fuze developer himself! Can't beat !FreeSoftware

Some !Ubuntu groups have been trying out https://chatb.org/ !GoogleFree, no proprietary plugin required, no registration required, Peer-to-Peer (so no data collection at a central server), !FreeSoftware Source available at http://r-w-x.org/?p=chatb.git;a=summary

Of course !crypto is difficult! Remember when someone cleaned up the OpenSSL source code by removing the uninitialized buffer that contributed to entropy? http://www.debian.org/security/2008/dsa-1571 It would be good for the !FreeSoftware world if all security code was independently audited.
