I think you're right in that some soul is lost. Anything which grows too much will fail as a community. However, as this is all !fs the important thing to remember is that these are mere tools to create our own, new and balanced communities. @junglestrike I think the only accurate picture of the !fediverse is the local picture for each instance, which differs wildly and can both include and exclude various instances at the same time. That's why we (at the same time) call it the #Schrödingerverse or #Cativerse. -

@Tchambers How about #Wordpress, which essentially is a part of the !fediverse already as we can subscribe to all of their #Atom feeds (and I believe PubSubHubbub is enabled for anything .wordpress.com). -

@PeterCxy We've had this discussion on !GNUsocial too - even whether the !fediverse tag should have a Spanish equivalent or not. Depending on how much a profile posts, there could of course be practical issues with varying languages. It's not like you start talking Japanese in a (real, physical) room full of Swedes, right? @eileenb Me too! Though I'd like to point out that the obvious answer to "own the name everywhere!" discussion is: Why don't #CocaCola etc. have a social.cocacola.com domain with !OStatus? Then they own their !fediverse presence and can distribute information via proper Atom feeds etc. so sheeple can subscribe....wait why would anyone subscribe to a news feed from Coca Cola?! -

It would be up to each federated remote instance whether to delete the profile and/or data. The possibility to delete an account's data should be obvious. Internally, big sites like birdsite are massively distributed databases.
Look at the federation bugs you see on #fediverse. Delays. Glitches. Missing posts.
Twitter has the same issues, because these are fundamentally hard computer science problems. The tinfoil hat brigade sees censorship and conspiracies, where people who know how these things work just see the expected bugs.
