@clacke Contrasts #Hong_Kong in 2003 responding to #SARS with #Sweden in 2020 responding to #COVID-19. Admittedly, I was barely even aware of SARS at the time (and completely missed MERS a few years later). But at the time, I was working full time, attending a college and a university, teaching a class at church, and trying to work out custody of #sonTwo. I was running full ti…

I would be a lot more open to undoing a lot of the lockdowns if the people promoting it were willing to do what is required: 1--personal responsibility: the things we're told every day ... wash hands frequently, mask up if we go out, avoid getting closer than 6 feet / 2 meters from other people; 2--corporate: restructure workplace and processes to reduce the spread of disease, …

Q: Are more people committing suicide due to #COVID-19 related lockdowns and job losses?
A: There is no way to tell for a few years. We do not know and we can not know until final figures are in and we're looking back at this time period.

@musicman Yeah, once #hydroxychloroquine got politicized, everyone's brains fell out. A few (since refuted) studies said it was too dangerous to even study, others said it has a mild positive effect on outcomes or no effect on outcomes, and everyone rushes to acclaim or condemn it right away. Get the politics out of the way and let the medical scientists do their job. It will …

"Some patterns have emerged. Large metropolitan centers such as Los Angeles and San Francisco appear to be the hardest hit. Men more than women are likely to die from COVID-19, and the elderly fare the worst. More than 8,000 people have died in California." -- #California #coronavirus obituaries https://www.latimes.com/projects/coronavirus-lives-lost-in-california/ [www latimes com]

One of my brothers works in PubHealth. The non-public #COVID-19 numbers he sees must be quite a bit higher than what the public sees, because he is really serious about not catching it himself and not passing it on unknowingly. I'm serious about it myself, but I did not ever disinfect vegetables after I bring them home.

One of my brothers has been furloughed by his $EMPLOYER for a few months, despite being in a position where he has to remain available for (unpaid) work, so that there would be an operation to reopen if and when the #COVID-19 outbreak is in control enough for his industry to be allowed to open.
Today, he sent some of us siblings a pre-announcement of his upcoming business venture.

I was on the phone with S a couple of nights ago. She needed someone to talk to because her dad is hospitalized. His test results have not come back yet, but they suspect #COVID-19. Her younger brother, who had recently moved from #NC to #GA to take care of him, had been tested and is on self-quarantine. While we were still on the phone, her older brother (I don’t know what…
