I don't know if you can tell, but that's a tomato hornworm caterpillar, with ants holding its legs. There were also some ants grabbing onto the (other) side of its head. It took them quite a while to wear it down, so it stopped trying to crawl away. Last I saw, it was trying to remove ants by curling and uncurling, then rolling. I think the ants are going to enjoy their meal. -

They politicized it when they awarded it to Obama, who hadn't really done anything yet (2009, just a few months after he took office). It would have been different if they'd waited until he'd done something.
Once they did that, the Nobel prize became worthless to me. I don't care who they give it to now. -

Also, today's smoke is much thinner. Very little orangish tint to the world and much brighter outside today. I think the wind direction has shifted, so that may be the main difference. I still have not seen E623 / calcium glutamate on US labels. (That does not mean the ingredient is not there, because of US labelling rules.) Years ago, I used to see MSG (mono sodium glutamate) on labels.
