Also, today's smoke is much thinner. Very little orangish tint to the world and much brighter outside today. I think the wind direction has shifted, so that may be the main difference.

The El Dorado Fire was climbing some rugged parts of the San Bernardino mountains, so it seems unlikely they made that big of an advance in containing and extinguishing the fire. This fire is not far from where the Apple Fire burned last month. In the prior fire, the winds took most of the smoke away from this area.
