Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Sunday, 15-May-2016 13:22:44 EDT Bob Mottram @rozzin oh that's nice, although I prefer the red logo. I think the logo would also look OK on a grey shirt. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Saturday, 14-May-2016 15:08:35 EDT Bob Mottram Made a script to check that the !gnusocial daemons keep running, and sends an email to the admin if there is a problem. #Freedombone -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Saturday, 14-May-2016 04:25:42 EDT Bob Mottram @dtluna probably !gnusocial needs a NSFW plugin, like the one in #Hubzilla. That way things with the NSFW tag are minimised by default but you can click on them to view. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Friday, 13-May-2016 18:53:56 EDT Bob Mottram Made !gnusocial and #Hubzilla T-shirts, so during the summer I can shamelessly advertise some of the projects on #Freedombone. The Hubzilla one is all blue with the white logo and name. Gnusocial is black with the big red logo. -

Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Friday, 13-May-2016 12:55:54 EDT Bob Mottram Twitter is possibly getting an onion address. Will !gnusocial also be able to operate within both ICANN and onion domains? I think there was some talk about this a while ago, and it's currently one or the other, but not both. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Friday, 13-May-2016 05:00:22 EDT Bob Mottram @mangeurdenuage yes. It's inspired by FreedomBox, and uses some of the code from freedom-maker. The main difference is that FreedomBox is a pure !debian blend, whereas Freedombone is not. On Freedombone I do include some things installed from git repos, which are not yet in the official repos, such as !gnusocial, #Hubzilla and #gogs. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Monday, 09-May-2016 08:26:31 EDT Bob Mottram @louis my not-so-secret agenda is to make it easy for anyone who wants to to be able to run their own internet services and federate with others, bypassing privacy problems and providing greater independence. The internet doesn't have to be a centralised data silo, and !gnusocial is perhaps one part of fixing the brokenness of the current web. On marxists, anarchists et al, all … -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Wednesday, 04-May-2016 07:14:10 EDT Bob Mottram Don't know if this applies to images in !gnusocial http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/05/04/imagemagickexploitsinthewild/ -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Monday, 02-May-2016 16:11:51 EDT Bob Mottram These internet service outages are a symptom of centralization. We need to re-decentralize personal communications. https://theintercept.com/2016/05/02/whatsapp-used-by-100-million-brazilians-was-shut-down-nationwide-today-by-a-single-judge/ -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Monday, 02-May-2016 04:48:35 EDT Bob Mottram @mmn Of all the systems on #Freedombone, !gnusocial was one of the easier to install. Anything which is based on python or ruby is typically a dependency nightmare. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Monday, 02-May-2016 04:23:47 EDT Bob Mottram I'm noticing that there seem to be quite a lot of !gnusocial installs out there. This is the advantage of (i) being easy to install and (ii) federation. -

Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Saturday, 30-Apr-2016 09:38:33 EDT Bob Mottram Wondering whether to make some !gnusocial merchandise. FOSS projects are rarely advertised, and "wearing the T-shirt" or badge can sometimes be a talking point which makes people aware that these things exist. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Saturday, 30-Apr-2016 08:45:59 EDT Bob Mottram @strypey well the great thing about !gnusocial is that if the neocons want their own server they can have it. They can be as idiotic as they like on their own hardware. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Apr-2016 10:30:57 EDT Bob Mottram Egyptians should use !gnusocial https://theintercept.com/2016/04/26/facebook-no-longer-secret-weapon-egypts-protesters-turn-signal/ -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Monday, 25-Apr-2016 11:00:11 EDT Bob Mottram @strypey Facebook is not your friend. The "real names" policies of Facebook, G+ and so on are about convenience for advertisers and perhaps other customers. It's about having a consistent social graph. When users can change their names then the social graph becomes more complicated and thus harder to monetize. -
Bob Mottram (bob)'s status on Monday, 25-Apr-2016 10:26:20 EDT Bob Mottram @strypey I think you're right. Code under more permissive licenses (like MIT) can be included in a GPL project. This happens in !gnusocial -
