Really excited for today’s SNOLAB research student presentations. SNOLAB employs undergraduates in the research environment and does so in three major cycles: winter, summer, and fall. Today marks the culmination of the winter season, and I am really curious to see what they have discovered! # snolab # science # physics # astrophysics # undergroundscience # students # research

Classy. This is why, despite churn in the tools, I have never regretted keeping my focus on the use of open, federated social media platforms. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/b0f29f7c885505ab6fc315cc71cf230f10ef6584cb0622fa9e941523cf4b559b/view

Wow. A very young Andy Serkis in season 1 of “Pie in the Sky†… and yet, those vocal and facial hallmarks that would become his iconic “Smeagol/Gollum†character are all there in plain sight … !

Oh my God yes this. Turns out I inherited my philosophy for special lectures in my physics courses from Sommerfeld, who turns out to be my doctoral great great great great grandfather. https:// academictree.org/physics/tree. php?pid=462542 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/284755958017bb76dd40a5e60212a3e0deab2b45d994265545e124616e542fc2/view

It is an absolutely gorgeous evening. It's going to rain, which makes the moments even brighter. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/1e394e6c3db034eea0f038f1a7eca647e015b6d03ec75112714c86b5480dbf51/view

... and, of course, "The Armed Man: Benedictus" is streaming on WQXR as I am reading this biography. Perfect. And heartbreaking. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/73da4af53511015a0e2c7832b0bd9023a951151990b0a19466d2794191909417/view

Congratulations to SMU student Joshua Ange on being selected for the Goldwater Scholarship! It is a remarkable sign of both achievement and potential to be selected for this award. https:// blog.smu.edu/dedmancollege/202 3/04/03/joshua-ange-receives-goldwater-scholarship/

I was pretty tired afterward, but I wanted to make sure I did a BIG shout out to the RASC Sudbury Centre for hosting me at their Friday monthly meeting. I tried to share some of the wonder of the cosmos by focusing on astronomy without light. What made the evening particularly special were the many and excellent questions from the participants! https:// http://status.hack…

It was a marvelous day in Sudbury. We had a high of 27.2C (81F)! I went for my first outdoor run since last October (technically I did.a short run in Connecticut, but not being in Ontario … that didn’t count). Otherwise, caught up on chores around the house.

It was amazing outside today here in Sudbury. After I got home from SNOLAB, I took a walk in the neighborhood. It was shorts-and-tee-shirt weather … and there were still piles of snow on the ground. It was a stunning combo. https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/07166d0df3feb32ec24d4d2a85b64edab7271088729a75479132eaab2fed3831/view
