Analogy: Encryption is a proof of work algorithm if you don't have the key. Having the key is like pre-computing the PoW.
It is imperfect, but definitely better than some others I've seen.

@mangeurdenuage I suppose no one knows how to reach @awg to inform him of the closure.

For the first time in a couple of months, I was able to extend my right arm straight out sideways without (much) pain. I also practiced "TSA position" ... almost got there.

K's investigator called back. Besides work stuff, he wanted personal stuff. Does K pay his bills, stay out of legal trouble, is he loyal to the country?
-
Had a phone conversation with K afterward. He thinks it is getting near time to hang it up and do something else. I reminded him that he said he was going to buy a Mac and learn some media stuff like video editing.

According to @simsa03, #Wikimedia Foundation has USD$111M in the bank. https://pleroma.site/objects/f97dbb44-c697-45ad-842f-e31ba2c3c4ce
Yet, #Wikipedia is constantly begging for more. There's only so much donation money available from the general public. By trying to hog it all for themselves, they're reducing the amount that is available to other causes, some of which may be equally or more worthy of support.

@musicman I agree about exec pay.
As for side projects, in their new, limited-resource world, every new project takes resources away from #Firefox, #Thunderbird, and #Rust. Sometimes that's worth the cost, sometimes it isn't, but take a look at how many projects they've abandoned (such as their mobile OS).
-
fair point. The side-project vs project distinction is not really important. What is important is whether resources are being used properly and the article makes a convincing point that they have not. I pretty much use #Firefox 100% these days. Safari and Firefox are all I have installed on the primary machine. As long as I am working from home, work machine is going to be prim…

K also told me the office in #Sac is partially open. They called him to come there, but he's on health-related travel restrictions.

Speaking of the #Census bureau, they believe they have counted over 95% of US households already. That doesn't include the house across the street. Twice now, they've sent someone out to the house, but the family hasn't been home. Not sure who actually lives there. They have so many people coming and going that I don't have a clue.

Even short-term spells of poverty lower school-aged children's involvement in extracurricular activities.
Also, children whose families made at least five times the poverty level for the entire year were more likely to be in a gifted program than all other children.

@mangeurdenuage This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing. Why can't people just use their socnet's block / mute / hide / silence options and move on?

Whatever update $EMPLOYER installed a few days ago, it took 20 minutes to get logged in and connected to the #VPN today. With the older laptops, that wasn't unusual, but these ones run much faster.

Let's just agree on a critical information point: no-knock warrants should never have been legal.
Everything that follows after a no-knock warrant is contaminated by the unconstitutionality of the home invasion ("arrests/drug raid") that the acts are part of.

The commercial real estate market has been way overpriced for the last few years. Even as many retailers have seen their sales going to online competitors, they still have to pay their landlords as though "location, location, location" still brought in all the customers they could want. Restaurants don't have to worry as much about online competitors, but if they're just take-o…
-
All of that means that retail and restaurant rental prices need to be deeply cut, and soon.

http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22340 Starts with a comparison of #Firefox market share and the pay of #Mozilla's top executive I did not search for it, but around the time they laid off 1/4 of their workforce, I thought I saw something about some pay reductions for their top management. http://status.hackerposse.com/url/22341 My personal assessment is this: as the browser…

From 2019, but I missed this. https://www.howtogeek.com/437372/what-is-vbscript-and-why-did-microsoft-just-kill-it/
#Microsoft finally killed #VBScript in the browser and most other programs.

Not wanting to get on a crowded plane, but neither do I want to drive 26 hours each direction. Trying to visit #GS3 next month, so I need to not be any more sleep deprived than necessary. The grandchild will make sure that I cannot sleep until his bedtime (in theory, 19:00, but often as late as 21:00) or sleep in later than his waketime (07:00).
Might have to look at Amtrak or Greyhound.
-
https://www.greyhound.com/en/ says the first part of the trip is 36 hours. Nope. Between the length and arriving in the middle of the night, it ain’t happening that way.
-
Probably not #Amtrak either. They do go to #STL and KC, but nowhere else. #sonOne lives in the #KC area, but with his current work schedule, visiting at all is a hardship (and needing a ride to his brother’s place almost 3 hours away even more so).
