   It is, but less so if you can say you were tricked or if you were forced. "We did not know this was a police operation when we identified X as related to you" will hold off customer defections up to a point.

     I predict that some time in the next few years, we'll also find that the testing companies have been selling people's DNA results to other organizations, too. It's all entirely predictable and expected. I say this even though DNA testing did reconnect a half-brother to my family.      I should point out that I'm not defending the police organizations that use this data in ways that were never authorized by the people involved. Sometimes "makes my job easier" is outweighed by the need to preserve people's freedoms. Anyone who went to a US high school should know this.
