Linux puzzle ...at least to me. I dd a rasbian image to a new sd card. First time the image is no good (gets the root partion, but no boot partition). But the second dd works.

@ussndmac, that is weird—especially given that the boot partition is earlier in the image; I'd expect it to fail exactly the opposite way...

@ussndmac, only idea leaping to mind: maybe the OS running dd is automounting the newly-created FAT FS before dd finishes—and autofubars it?

@rozzin Hmm...the mount too soon idea could be, but then the question would be wht the second time works differently.
I've not tried to duplicate the issue on anything but ubuntu (.i.e. a pi running raspbian or even something running vanilla debian).
