@cosine Often the Free Software people I've met were also involved with other types of activism and apart from the pragmatic aspects it was part of their overall goal to lead a better kind of life which meant that they needed to make fewer compromises and be less reliant on corporations. -

Adding kdenlive to the mesh desktop. I don't have PeerTube working yet, and that might not install, but at least if you're at an event then having the ability to make, edit and share videos or podthings via the IPFS Public folder without necessarily needing the internet could be useful. !Freedombone !mesh -

@rozzin @mmn is 802.11s a true mesh though? Can it route packets through some arbitrary chain of nodes? -

"I feel like I’m lecturing you, and I am. I unequivocally am lecturing you. You deserve to be lectured right now. You’re a person in a position of power who could effect real change, and instead, you’re creating more noise and fear about a thing that’s never going to happen." It's funny I had almost this exact conversation with Singularitarians 10+ years ago. Kill… -

@mmn @rozzin "Most other wireless routing protocol implementations (e.g. the batman daemon) operate on layer 3 which means they exchange routing information by sending UDP packets and bring their routing decision into effect by manipulating the kernel routing table. Batman-adv operates entirely on ISO/OSI Layer 2 - not only the routing information is transported using ra… -

@rozzin @mmn A difference may be that batman adv runs on layer 2. I think that was a military development, and it makes it harder to disrupt the traffic. -

Noseying around in the !gnusocial code, probably something like Hubzilla's private messages and privacy groups could be possible with some extra fields. Admittedly, it would be re-inventing the wheel of a sort. -

Just in case there are any new Mastodon instance admins out there reading this, the number one thing you need to have in place if you want any sustained presence on the open web is a backup system in place and tested. This was one of the things I found early on with the !Freedombone project. If you don't have backups, or only an untested system, then any database corrupti… -
