@gameragodzilla A lot of actors that are good on screen aren't good without it. Many rely on stage presence and/or expression and gesture to carry what their voice doesn't. And inversely, a lot of good voice actors aren't great at screen or stage acting, because they've never had to consider those things. -

@takeshitakenji Only if you had non-optional plugins added in it. -

Biggest part of the migration will actually be migrating /files/
Even if I rsync it, there's a LOT of shit in there so it'll take a moment or like 30. -

Well, a productive day, albeit not quite in the originally-intended way due to the hiccup there. New VM is ready to go when I have a quiet time to migrate the database. It'll have a few performance optimizations as well as just be running the community instance, so it should be faster and more responsive hopefully. Also got some postActiv stuff done (just not th… -

@moonoffsite SPC looks really neat now, if a bit basic. Imagine you plan to build on that, though. -

@normandy Yeah here's hoping. A lot of cheapy VPS providers are on oversold servers hooked up to networks with really shit peering though, it's how they can offer it so cheap. -

@moonoffsite Tomorrow's schedule is review and render code. That's all I have going. Hopefully I can make some headway on the latter. -

@normandy I get the problem from home as well if I try from my test instance, too, which is what tipped me to it not just being some server misconfiguration or the usual GS shenanigans. -

@berry @normandy That's kind of a hail Mary to begin with, but its about all we can do from our end since its not a problem on our side, its with his provider. -

@normandy @berry He made a ticket with his provider he said, but from our end, you can sometimes get around it by forcing packets to take certain routes, since that can make make it go through different peers on either side, but it looks like there's only the one his provider uses from what I could see after an hour of jimmying with it. -

@archaeme Probably a switch misconfiguration on his provider's side, if I had to guess looking from the outside in. -

@postmesmeric If they don't research, that's on them. If they do, the reviews are good, and they don't like it, that's probably on the reviews. If they do, the reviews are bad, and they buy it anyways (which is a lot of bethesda fans, looking at you everyone who bought Wet), they've no one to blame but themselves. -

@normandy @berry Does the same for mine too, when I troubleshooted it, it looks like every available route from the my datacenter, to his, goes through a single peer on his end, that drops packets like I drop clothing items around my wife. -

@moonoffsite I should do this with mine, especially since I have it in a public repo now, lol -

@postmesmeric A wise reviewer would use such a pre-release copy to go through the motions of the game and have a sense for the mechanics, but then hold onto the review, and test the netcode on release day, before they write on that.
But that would mean they're not one of the first to release a review, and that would cost them adrev. -

@gameragodzilla It feels like they used bigger name, but less effective, voice actors this time. -

@postmesmeric It's also an example of a game that had early review copies where people ended up misled because it reviewed well and the servers were complete shit. -

@gameragodzilla It's basically like the first scene of a game but cut off from even that because the developer couldn't be arsed.
