Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Sunday, 21-Feb-2016 17:04:46 EST Bob Jonkman No bashing intended. I just find the format of those messages jarringly different from messages originating from GNUsocial instances, and it seemed to me that the content was different from your regular postings. I stand corrected. In fact, I really like having a different kind of #Twitterbridge available. It's always good to have a choice of software. I hope you do release the s… -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Sunday, 21-Feb-2016 15:50:49 EST Bob Jonkman The Twitter repeats all have an annoying header with "Twitter" and a redundant date; also the content appears to be mostly links to articles rather than conversations that people in the !Fediverse can take part in. -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Sunday, 21-Feb-2016 13:49:12 EST Bob Jonkman @discussthang Can you create a separate account for your Twitter repeats? I'd like to subscribe to you because of the interesting things you say, but the Twitter stuff is overwhelming your own stuff. -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Sunday, 21-Feb-2016 02:16:45 EST Bob Jonkman Picked up an HP laptop "120W Advanced Docking Station" at Computer Recycling. Got a 120W power module with it, but the docking station won't power up. The power brick that came with my laptop is only 65W, so I don't expect that to work. I'll go back on Tuesday to test another power module -- hope I didn't waste my $5.00! -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 16:52:00 EST Bob Jonkman Hi @tom@s.karp.id.au, why shut down your instance? The !Fediverse is stronger when there are more instances. Sure, it's easier to find people to follow on the "hives", but you can subscribe to people on remote instances from your own instance (Hope this gets to you before you shut down gs.sdf.org ) -

Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 16:40:44 EST Bob Jonkman The 45 GByte .sql file is uncompressed, and contains all the databases in MySQL (now MariaDB). That's two !GNUsocial instances, 8 WordPress installations, my ownCloud DB (with at least four users), one Drupal install, one WikiMedia, a brdcst DB that I never got to work, something for PHPMyAdmin, and a handful of MySQL housekeeping DBs. -

Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 16:26:35 EST Bob Jonkman Agreed, there are logistics to be worked out. Some can be solved technically, some need to be solved socially. I think the !Fediverse is up to the challenge. -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 15:35:22 EST Bob Jonkman I would really like to see that !Groups are distributed across the !Fediverse. For example, if I create a !selfhost group on my instance, and then you create a !selfhost group on your instance, they would really be replicated instances of the same !selfhost group. That would provide resilience when my group becomes unavailable, and solves the problem of separate groups on differe… -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 14:49:27 EST Bob Jonkman For sure, as long as there are trolls and spammers a "Community" !GNUsocial instance works better than a "Public" instance. -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 14:46:09 EST Bob Jonkman I did see some MariaDB errors; consensus on the Internets was that I should create empty DBs in MariaDB then import the MySQL tables. That almost worked -- sadly, my most recent backup got trashed in the drive crash during the restore. An earlier backup was done with `mysqldump --all-databases` resulting in a 45 GByte .sql file that has a logical error about 3/4 way through (noth… -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 14:05:32 EST MMN-o ✅⃠ @bobjonkman2 Myeah, but for the optimal use case we'll have community/friendbased instances where shadowbanning is essentially only done on external accounts. So not as evil as it would be in a centralised system .) -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman2)'s status on Saturday, 20-Feb-2016 14:08:31 EST Bob Jonkman @mmn I did a *literal* drop-in -- took the MySQL files from /var/lib/mysql from the dead server and put them in /var/lib/mysql on the new server running MariaDB. Most DBs can still be read, but most of those can't be updated. Only one or two DBs are fully functional. Affects !GNUsocial, WordPress, MediaWiki...
